He is lying on the floor near the sofa; its edge is covered in blood. His blood.
A pair of black eyes fell on me, begging me to save its master.
But can I?
How can I when my legs have forgotten the action they are supposed to do?
Move.
I can't move.
Neither forward nor backward. It is like the floor has shackled me to its invisible strength.
I want to move forward and help him, but I don't.
I stand at the entrance watching my soon-to-be husband bleeding from his mouth.
"Save him!" My inner self shouts, ordering me, but my body disobeys.
"Abuzar!" An older woman shouts with eardrum-tearing intensity, but still I don't move.
"Bhai!" A painful shriek of a young girl follows, but I still don't react. How am I supposed to react?
Our wedding is in a week; how am I supposed to react seeing my fiance spilling so much blood?
"Ameerah calls Kabeer." The older woman who was soon going to be my mother-in-law orders as her eyes flow, none stop making her whole face wet.
"Fatima," I hear Ameerah's soft whispers accompanied by a brush on my shoulder.
"Fatima, get out of it; he will be fine." She tries to assure me, but I don't react.
Maybe my body is never going to recover from this.
"Get off him, mumma." A cold voice reaches my ears, turning the already cold and tense atmosphere more chill and scary.
Maybe he brought darkness with him too, because the next moment I felt my head touching a hard surface and darkness invading my surroundings.

When light comes back to me, a teal ceiling is what my gaze falls on.
"Hi princess." My papa's soothing voice comforts me like always. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I?" I reply, trying to get up, but fall back on the bed when I feel an excruciating pain in my skull.
"Because you fainted and a hard wooden table dared to hurt my precious daughter." He frowns, making movements with his hands.
Oh, so it was dark because I fell.
