One Sick Weekend

It was gonna be one sick weekend before Empire Day next week and the rebels had to make sure everything was set to go and in proper place for the so called celebration. Kanan had taken Ezra out on a side mission to track imperial activity in the hoth system and do some Jedi training in a new environment. Ezra was excited for the trip, but little did he know it was also an excuse to get him out of the Ghost so the rest of the crew could put together a surprise birthday party for him. Empire Day was only a few rotations away, and last cycle the team learned that it was also Ezra's birthday. He hadn't celebrated it since losing his parents and so his friends wanted to do sometime special for him this time. So far so good! The hoth system was thankfully quiet so it would give Kanan and Ezra a lot of time to train and relax. Ezra had never seen snow before so he was eager to get in a little fun play time and exploration.

"Hey Kanan, when's the first time you ever saw snow?"

"Hmmm." Kanan paused in thought as he flew the phantom. "To be honest, I'm not sure? I may have seen it when I was very young, but my earliest memory I think I was probably 8 or so."

"It's ok if you don't remember, old man. Was a long time ago." Ezra shot him a smirk.

"Funny." Kanan snorted and rolled his eyes sarcastically.

"Never snowed on Lothal. At least not while I was alive, it might have before the climate changed but I dunno."

"Well then we'll have to make sure this trip will be extra memorable! You need to learn how to fight and survive in multiple climates and environments. But we'll be sure to get in a lot of fun and play time for you too, I promise."

"Hey, it's not like I'm some little kid!" Ezra laughed. "In fact I...." Ezra stopped himself, he was about to say he was going to be turning 16 but shut his mouth instead, deciding not to bring it up. Nobody had made any mention of it so he didn't want to seem selfish, he knew how busy everyone had been with the rebellion lately.

Kanan shot him a glance, sensing his insecure vulnerability thru the Force, "You ok kid? Something on your mind?"

"N-no I just, never mind, it's nothing." Ezra cleared his throat and turned away awkwardly, shielding his embarrassed expression behind a curtain of his hair. Kanan could tell what he was thinking but decided not to press the issue further and resumed piloting. The cockpit was quiet for a while after that until Ezra broke the silence with a yawn. "Don't get me wrong master, I'm happy that there's no imperial activity around here, but at the same time I was hoping for at least a little action." Ezra's sentence was cut short when an explosion rocked the back of the ship and alarms began to sound off. "What's going on!?"

"Incoming ties!" Kanan looked around frantically as they roared around them. "Check the damage report, I'll handle these guys." He gripped the guns on the handle with a growl.

"On it!" Ezra jumped up and ran to the back where smoke was already starting to fill in the rear portion of the ship. Ezra coughed and waved it away, it getting thicker as he neared the impact. Thankfully it didn't break the hull, but there was interior damage from computers shorting out in the explosion as well as system errors. Ezra began to type frantically on the control panel as he analyzed the damage report, then he pulled out his com. "They got our navigation and communication system, life support is low, if we go down out here we're no better than nunas sitting in a pot!"

"Don't worry kid, I can handle a few ties." Kanan spoke as he continued to shoot at the incoming fighters, blowing one up that came on head strong. "See what you can fix and try to put out that smoke, I've got things covered up here."

"Copy that." Ezra put away his com and got back to work trying to reroute power back and have the system run repairs, that way he could focus on the physical damage on the ship. The flames crackling in the air thankfully were small, Ezra was able to put them out quickly and easily and the smoke began to dissipate. He headed back up to the front. "All good back there, fire is out and I'm rerouting the power."
