Chapter 9: Twist and Turns

Damian's POV

Luckily this time we got to spend time together, so we all decided to spend it at the beach. Finn talked to Rhea and told her he will get in touch with Lovely when she is done with her interview. He was called away by JD and Dominik before I could even say anything to him. I sighed and went to go get a beer from a nearby beach stand. 

I sat down nearby and watched them all having fun as I sipped my beer slow. I think Rhea has also caught on to Finn's behavior toward me and Lovely as well. I saw her looking around then her eyes locked onto mine, and she walked over and sat down in the empty chair by me.

 "Everything good Mate?" Rhea asked with concern written on her face. "Yeah, yeah. Why wouldn't I be?" I asked but I don't think it was convincing. "I noticed the tension between you and Finn. Spill it." She said looking at me seriously yet still worried. "It's just," I started and looked at Finn who was talking with Lovely. 

"I understand his worry about Lovely and not wanting her to get hurt. I really do but I am not the guy I used to be. You guys know that right? I wouldn't hurt her, nor would I intentionally try to. She is starting to mean a lot to me. You know... I have never felt this way about someone, nor have I ever said that about someone or even thought about someone in this way. A romantic way at least." I said surprising her and even myself. 

I looked at Lovely who just arrived on the beach and walked over to Finn who was sitting on the sand under an umbrella. I then looked at Rhea seriously and said, "I'm not perfect but I can say I have become better than I was in a sense. That's got to count for something. I have talked to Lovely about this too. I am more than what people think of me Rhea." 

She nodded her head and agreed before she spoke, "I know, and I agree with you. I know it and I've watched you for a long-time mate. I know you have changed. And since you say you have talked to Lovely, I know this is something that really is bothering you. I'm sure she will talk to Finn since I know she is very good at observing and reading the room. Finn will come around. I'm sure of it. So, for now, just have fun, okay?" She patted my back, and I nodded in agreement while chugging a bit of my beer.

Lovely's POV

I walked over to Finn seeing him watch JD and Dominik run around. "You have to talk to Damian sometime. I know you're avoiding him." I said sitting next to him. He looked at me then looked back at the boys clearing his throat before saying, "I'm not avoiding anyone." I chuckled and said, "I didn't know you to be a stubborn man." He looked at me with his jaw dropped like I offended him. 

"I am not being stubborn nor am I acting stubborn! I'm being protective and being concerned." He said as if he was trying to persuade me to believe that. I said, "I thank you, but you don't need to be. I talked to him. And not one of those quick talks I mean a deep talk where he explained every detail of his past to me." He looked at me and asked, "Really?" I chuckled at his thick accent. "You stop laughing at my accent little girl!" 

I patted him on the shoulder trying to hold my laughter saying sorry. He shook his head and couldn't help but laugh at his actions. "I missed moments like this, Lovely." He said, looking at me. "I did too. But it's all good now since we are back together." I said, smiling and nudging him. He sighed before saying, "He has been through a lot like the rest of us but differently, you know? And when it comes to you... I see you like a little sister. You know my family and I know your family. My family... They see you like family too and we don't want you to get hurt." I laid on his shoulder and said, "And I know, and I am thankful." He laid his head on mine. 

No words were needed for me to protest because we both know. The world has its many ways that are unfair to good people and things happen in life that are out of our control. We can't control it, but we can still try our best against the odds. 

He asked, "You are starting to like him, aren't you?" I sighed and said, "Maybe so but..." I paused thinking. "But what little one?" He asked. "But I am cautious. I don't like being in the friendzone if I like someone. And for me if Damian sees me as a friend, I don't think this is going to be easy for anyone. So, I may need to step away for a while." He lifted his head and said, "You can't give up Lovely. I know you and I know you wouldn't do that. And I know for a fact he really really likes you. He hasn't stopped staring at you this whole time since you got her and since we've been talking and even now as he is talking with Rhea as we speak. He takes a few glances at her but other than that he is looking at no one else but you." 

I lifted my head and looked at him shocked. He looked at me while smirking and tilted his head in a direction behind us and I looked that way. Damian and I's eyes locked in on one another. Neither of us looked away till I did first I slowly turned and looked at Finn for clarification, "The whole time?" He nodded while smiling at me and said, "Yes, the whole time we've been talking he was watching us both." I pierced my lips together and could feel my face getting hot. 

I slowly got up and said, "I will see you later Finn." He chuckled watching my behavior and noticing my cheeks turning a slight pink. He said something that made me freeze while turning to walk away and look back at him with wide eyes, "Not if he sees you first Lovely." He then burst out laughing at my expression and I pouted. I stomped my feet like a child and ran away from his teasing.

Damian's POV

I watched Lovely as she pouted at Finn and stomped her feet to leave. "Where is she going?" I asked Rhea. "I don't know. Go after her and find out." Rhea said softly, shoving me to go. I ran after Lovely.

Rhea's POV

I watched as Damian ran after Lovely and I smirked. I got up from my seat and went to Finn. "What did you say to Lovely?" I asked, looking at him and speaking in a serious tone. He chuckled and said, "Just teasing her a little." I raised an eyebrow. Before I could say something, he smiled in the direction Lovely and Damian went and said, "She likes him, but she is being cautious Rhea. He should tell her his feelings, or she'll think he just wants to be her friend forever." I was taken aback by his statement. 

"Wait, wait... so you're cool with them being together?" I asked confused since I thought he was against it. "Yes, but it's because he explained his past to her and because I can only protect her for only some time. You can't help who they fall in love with. You can only wish for happiness and that they are in good hands." He said, sounding like someone's proud dad leaving me surprised. 

"They both are my family. I just want everyone to be okay at the end of the day." He said looking at me with a gentle and reassuring smile. I patted his shoulder and said with reassurance, "They will be okay." We both smiled at one another. "Did you see the way he ran after her?" He asked, chuckling. "A man in love." I said laughing. "WAIT! DAMIAN IS IN LOVE WITH LOVELY?!?!" He yelled, startling me at first and I just laughed and nodded yes.

Damian's POV

I was chasing Lovely who walks really fast but we both froze in our stance when we heard Finn yell, "WAIT! DAMIAN IS IN LOVE WITH LOVELY?!?!" I closed my eyes and the first thing that ran through my mind was, "I am going to get Rhea back for this." 

But when I opened my eyes, I was in shock and flinched. I found Lovely standing in front of me with a shocked expression. I gulped and thought to myself, "Does she hate me now knowing that?" I gulped before speaking softly, "Lovely I um..." She cut me off and stared into my eyes asking, "Is what he just said true?" 

I sighed deeply with my head down and said, "Yes... it's tru-" I was cut off mid-sentence when Lovely suddenly jumped up and pecked me on the lips then took a step back. My mind was struggling to process what just happened. Before I could even try to say anything, I saw her face get flustered and she bolted past me and back to the beach where Finn and the other were at.

 My knees went weak, and I fell to the floor. I could hear Rhea calling my name faintly, but I couldn't respond. I was still stuck in my thoughts of what happened. It all happened so fast. "Priest! Priest! What happened?" Rhea was now in front of me shaking my shoulders while I was in a shocked state. The only words I was able to make out were, "She kissed me."
