The early morning sun filtered through the blinds, casting thin beams of light across the room. Lucien woke with a start, his senses immediately on high alert. The weight of the previous night's conversation with his father still lingered, but today felt different. Something was in the air—he could feel it.

Ivy was still asleep beside him, her breathing steady, but there was a tension in her even as she rested. He knew the toll the stress had taken on her. Between the complications with Blaire, the danger lurking outside, and the ever-present specter of Renaud, she had barely had a moment to breathe.

Lucien rose quietly, careful not to disturb her. He slipped into his clothes and headed downstairs, ready to face whatever was waiting for him today.

As he reached the bottom of the staircase, his phone buzzed with an urgent text.

“You need to see this. Renaud’s making moves.”

Lucien’s jaw clenched. He could feel the rush of adrenaline course through his veins as he opened the security feed from his phone. The video showed a man, tall and lean, approaching one of the entry points to the estate. It was Renaud.

Lucien’s heart pounded in his chest. He had anticipated this, but now that it was happening, it felt all too real. Renaud was no longer watching from the shadows—he was making his move. And that meant the stakes had just skyrocketed.

Without a moment's hesitation, Lucien called his head of security. "Is the perimeter locked down?"

"Yes, sir," came the immediate response. "But Renaud’s been testing our defenses. He's bold today, getting closer than ever before."

Lucien’s voice turned cold. "Double the patrols. I want eyes on him at all times. If he makes one wrong move, I want him shut down."

He ended the call and paced the room, his mind racing. He knew Renaud wouldn’t stop until he got what he wanted. And then there was Alessandra. Her sudden plea for forgiveness still nagged at him. He didn’t trust her. She had played a role in this mess, whether knowingly or not, and now she was begging for safety from the very man she had once stood beside.

But Lucien had no room for compassion. Not now. Not when everything he had built was on the line.

He was about to head out when the door to the living room opened, revealing Evelyn, his mother, who looked just as troubled as he felt. "Lucien, what’s happening?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Renaud’s getting bold," Lucien replied. "He’s testing our defenses."

Evelyn’s eyes widened in fear. "What are we going to do? Ivy and Blaire… they’re still vulnerable."

Lucien’s expression hardened. "I’ll handle it, Mom. I’ve got everything under control."

Before Evelyn could respond, Henry appeared in the doorway, his presence immediately grounding the situation. "Lucien’s right. We’ve got a plan in place. Renaud’s not going to get anywhere near this family."

Evelyn nodded but her worry remained clear. "Just be careful, Lucien. Don’t let this spiral."

Lucien gave a curt nod and left the room. He needed air—needed to clear his mind. The estate’s grounds were sprawling, and for a moment, the peaceful surroundings felt like an illusion. But peace was fleeting.

As he stepped outside, Lucien felt the tension creeping back in. His phone buzzed again. This time, it was Alessandra.

“Lucien, please. I’m begging you. Renaud is out of control. I didn’t know it would go this far.”

Lucien didn’t reply. Instead, he stared at the message, his thumb hovering over the delete button. Alessandra’s fear meant nothing to him now. She had chosen her side, and it wasn’t his.

A sudden rustling in the bushes caught his attention. Lucien’s body tensed as he turned towards the sound, his eyes scanning the perimeter. A figure emerged from the shadows—a man in black, one of his security team.

"Sir, we’ve got eyes on Renaud. He’s not alone. There’s another car parked nearby, unmarked. We think it might be his backup."

Lucien’s lips tightened into a thin line. "Keep me updated. I want to know the moment they make a move."

The guard nodded and disappeared back into the shadows. Lucien stood there, the weight of everything pressing down on him. This was no longer just a game of business—it was a war. And in war, there were no rules.

As he made his way back inside, he heard soft crying from upstairs. It was Blaire. Ivy must still be asleep. Lucien’s heart softened for a moment as he climbed the stairs and entered their bedroom.

Ivy stirred as Lucien gently picked up their daughter from the bassinet, cradling her in his arms. She looked up at him with tired eyes. "Everything okay?" she asked, her voice groggy.

"For now," Lucien replied, his tone reassuring despite the turmoil swirling inside him.

Ivy sat up, running a hand through her hair. "I just… I just want this all to be over, Lucien. I don’t want to live in fear anymore."

Lucien looked down at Blaire, then back at Ivy. "It will be over soon. I promise."

But even as he said the words, Lucien knew the storm was only just beginning.

Outside, in the distance, Renaud sat in his car, his eyes cold and calculating as he watched Lucien’s house. He knew his time was running out, but he wasn’t going down without a fight. His fingers drummed against the steering wheel as he dialed a number on his phone.

"It’s time," Renaud said into the receiver. "Make your move."

The game was on, and Lucien was about to face a battle that would test everything he held dear.
