Blackkit bounced onto the ball of rounded moss.
"I'll get you!" He pressed his paw against it again, his small claws unsheathed. Blackkit's dark coat shimmered in the late sunhigh light. His black pelt looked different against the light, darker and brighter at the same time.
The kit was only two moons old but plenty of things happened to him, like most of Blackkit's Clan avoided him and he never really knew why. Blackkit did notice that he was the only cat in camp to have a pelt full of black fur, even his parents, Magpiefall and Sootspot didn't have a pelt full of black but some patches of white with it. Blackkit was told to mainly ignore it, but it was hard with the whole Clan giving him weird glances and stares. And in the end, Blackkit shrugged it off like he was told to.
The moss ball leaped out of Blackkit's grasp, and it rolled into another kit's paws. A white she-kit with narrowed amber eyes, her name was Pebblekit, and Blackkit hated all of StarClan for her. And it made it especially worse that she was Blackkit's kin, they were total opposites! While Blackkit had a pelt of black, Pepplekit had a pelt of white, and even their eye colors were opposites!
"Hey!" Blackkit hissed, his tail bushing up as Pebblekit picked the moss ball up with a tiny claw.
"What are you going to do about it, Blackcat?" Pebblekit snorted rudely, her own tail flicking and lashing by her side.
Blackkit started to stalk away from where he was playing, the Highstump clearing where Pinestar held Clan meetings. "It's Blackkit." He called, not turning around but his tone warned Pebblekit with a glare that it should have frightened her, but she only just smirked and picked the moss ball up to just play with it herself.
Blackkit's paws swiftly carried him to the Nursery, his ear twitching from the sound of trickling water and annoyance. The water sound came from a small fall that fell down the between the medicine den and the Nursery, Waspsting or Fernpaw, who were the medicine cats, would usually go there to collect water for any sick or injured cats. Blackkit glanced around the Nursery as he finally got there, he only saw Magpiefall, his mother, and her littermate Whitebirch, who was Pebblekit's own mother.
Magpiefall stared at Blackkit, her eyes rounded with confusion and a hint of worry. "What's wrong, Blackkit?" She asked.
"Nothin'." Blackkit grumbled, his shoulder and tail fur tried to lie down.
Magpiefall raised a brow at her only kit, "are you sure?" she asked again.
Blackkit huffed and sat in Magpiefall's nest. "Pebblekit was bullying me again." He whispered, staring at his folded paws. Blackkit never understood why Pebblekit always bullied him, but it started when they both were barely able to get out of the Nursery.
"Pebblekit's bulling you?" Magpiefall's mew startled Blackkit.
"I'll speak with her," Whitebirch, Pebblekit's mother and Blackkit's kin, said with a frown. Her tone was disappointed.
"No, no!" Blackkit exclaimed. Whitebirch glanced at Magpiefall with a look Blackkit didn't recognize, a little bit of confusion and... fear? "She already thinks I'm a tattletale... it'll just make things worse." Blackkit explained with a mumble as he fiddled with his front paws.
"Alright," Whitebirch tilted her head with another frown.
Oh, I hope Whitebirch doesn't scold Pebblekit! That will just make things worse for me. Blackkit thought, his blue eyes narrowed. Blackkit curled his tail in dismay as he brought his front paws upward for a stretch and he released a yawn. He slowly got up and padded out of the den, turning his head left and right. Pebblekit wasn't at the falls, or the clearing, or even the medicine den. Blackkit angled his ears to the den to just barely catch the meows of Waspsting and Fernpaw. Waspsting must be giving Fernpaw an herb lesson. Blackkit walked forward and padded to the fallen tree.
The camp had a simple route. It was a hollow with a fallen tree right in the middle, furthest of the entrance was the medicine den and the Nursery and closest to the entrance was the Highstump and the warriors', leader's, and apprentice den. But the apprentice den was behind the fallen tree. The elders, which we only have one of, slept at the roots of the fallen tree.
Blackkit's ears angled again to the direction of the elders' den. Has Patchface woken up already? She usually sleeps in until sunhigh!
Blackkit walked into the fallen tree, Tallshadow, a dark gray tom, padded past him, their pelts barely brushing. Tallshadow was the deputy of GlacierClan, and he was one of the cats that mainly didn't ignore Blackkit. Blackkit noticed that he was limping while he passed by, did he treed on a thorn? Blackkit dodged Tallshadow's squeezing flank, but the two pelts brushed past each other.
Blackkit finally reached the end of the fallen tree and sunlight flashed into the kit's eyes. He shook his head and blinked as he continued his way to the elders' den.
"Patchpelt?" Blackkit called as he crawled under a tree branch. The elders' den was so close to the fallen tree that there were even some nests in the fallen tree!
Patchpelt yawned, her single eye blinked at Blackkit. The elder's other eye was milky and blind from an infection that didn't very much go away. "Oh, Blackkit! I didn't see you there." Patchpelt purred as she noticed the small, black-pelted kit. She put her tail neatly by her side as she asked why he had come here so early in the day.
Blackkit smiled and sat near her nest, "can you tell me a story?" He asked. He liked Patchpelt's stories the most, he even liked them more because she was his kin, she was Magpiefall's and Whitebirch's mother.
"Of course, which story?" Patchface replied, but her eye flashed a look at means she already knew which story Blackkit was going to ask for.
"Hm..." Blackkit thought. I know which story I want! But can I ask for it again?
"Do you want to hear about the story where Blackstar defeated Darkstar and saved all the Clans from The Dark Times?" Patchface frowned as she read Blackkit's mind.
Blackkit nodded swiftly, his gaze enthusiastic.
Patchface sighed, "again?" She tilted her head sideways and her eye twinkled with amusement.
Blackkit nodded hastily again. Yes! Blackstar was so brave! And he is the only black cat that is good in stories! I'm going to be like him one day! Blackkit glanced at his black tail and thought about how his Clan stared at him weirdly and how Pebblekit bullied him. Is it because they think I'll turn out like Darkstar? No! I'll be like Blackstar! Blackkit thought with a promise and he gave a smile at Patchface to start the story.
Patchface chuckled at Blackkit's enthusiasm and smile. "Let's see..."
