the night at the halloween party seemed to stretch on, the cool october air mixing with the heat from the bonfire outside. sophie belle lane found herself unwinding more and more with every passing hour. her costume-a sleek, modern take on rapunzel-had gotten plenty of compliments, and her nerves from earlier in the evening had faded away. she, jenna, and tori had spent the first half of the party wandering around, laughing and pointing out the creative costumes. now, with the night in full swing, sophie was content to just soak in the atmosphere.
as sophie leaned back against one of the large patio chairs near the fire pit, jenna sat down next to her, fiddling with the drink in her hand. "this party's actually kind of great," jenna said, grinning. "see? aren't you glad we came?"
