CHAPTER ONE- Patrol

A/N This story will start out pretty slow, but it picks up. Once I get to around 10 chapters I'll be updating on weekends! This is just a story about my OCs, and it's my first story. Any tips or comments are very appreciated, thank you! <3

I can't remember the last time I was completely alone, since joining the Luxarian Landwatch I'd had my unit with me pretty much at all times. I loved Val, Jovie, and Astren to death but I liked quiet sometimes too. I mean Val was truly my best friend but even still.

I draw in a long breath. The air is humid, but cool. Pleasant. I'm reminded this isn't a leisurely stroll, as much as I want it to be.

It's a perimeter patrol. I sigh softly and pull myself along the outer edges of the Landwatch camp. My too-big boots stick to muddy ground, and they nearly fall off. The area I'm patrolling is thick with tall pines and thick mist, making it difficult to see more than twenty feet ahead.

I think for a moment I see the glint of armor in the distance. Not the copper color of the Luxarians, instead silver. Courtainians.

But no, It's just moonlight reflecting on mist. I relax my shoulders, not realizing I had tensed them in the first place.

The sky starts to darken, and I do my best to rush through the rest of the patrol. Soon, maybe too soon, I'm back at my units tent. I draw in a long breath before stepping inside.

Jovie is already passed out face down on her cot, curly dark brown hair splayed out like a hand fan. Val and Astren are engaged in some sort of argument. In fact so engaged that both of them were oblivious to my entrance for at least a solid 15 seconds.

Eventually, Val does notice. His face glimpses guilt for only a moment before he corrects himself and smiles. I know he doesn't mean to do it, but every time he sees the scar that deforms the right side of my face he remembers everything that happend. Then again, how can he not?

He stands suddenly, knocking over a game bored I only just noticed. Astren flings his hands in the air.

"I am not cleaning that!" He yelps.

Val just shrugs, then turns back to me.

"All clear?" He voice characteristicly cheerful.

"Yep."

"Good, wanna play that game with me and Astren?"

He gestures towards the now toppled bored.

"Not playing with you ever again, Valentine."

He mutters into his hands, and I can't help but laugh to spite Vals mildly disappointed expression.

"Maybe tomarrow. It's about time to clean up anyway, heading back to Luxaria tomarrow and all."

"Again, not cleaning it." Astren chimes in. I roll my eyes.

"I'll help you clean it." I say to Val before walking towards the messy end of the tent.

He follows, and while we clean, Astren plunks down on his own cot. We finish quickly, thank the gods.

Me and Valentine exchange goodnights and lie down. Astren and Val fall asleep long before myself, as they always do.

Of course I stare at the ground for nearly an hour, idly picking at my nails.

Luckily after a relatively busy day of packing for Luxaria I do fall asleep.
