Zhan sat by the window in his chambers, the morning light casting a gentle glow over his face. His thoughts were filled with reflections on General Yaun, whose wisdom and presence had been a steady source of inspiration. As he mused over their past conversations and the bond they shared, a knock at the door interrupted his reverie.
A messenger entered, bowing respectfully. "Your Highness, Prince Zixuan and his father have arrived to visit Yunmeng Kingdom."
Zhan's face brightened with excitement. Zixuan, whom he had met during the recent swordsmanship competition, was a new friend he looked forward to seeing again. But Zhan didn't know anything that, Zixuan had developed feelings for him during their brief encounter, captivated by Zhan's kindness and grace.
Hastening to the throne room, Zhan joined his father, King Jiang Min his brother Cheng and general Yaun who were welcoming Zixuan and his father. After the formal greetings, Zhan and Cheng offered to show Zixuan around the city. Zhan handed Zixuan a plain cloak and explained, "We're going to explore the city, but it's best if we stay incognito."
Zixuan looked puzzled. "Why disguise ourselves?"
Cheng, with a mischievous grin, replied, "If we went out in royal clothes, we'd attract too much attention and wouldn't be able to have any fun. This way, we can enjoy ourselves without drawing a crowd."
Zixuan, though slightly confused, accepted the cloak and followed them. The day was a whirlwind of activities. They wandered through the bustling marketplace, where Zixuan was enchanted by the vibrant stalls and the aroma of street food. Zhan and Cheng led him to a stall selling candied fruit. Zixuan took a bite and marveled, "This is amazing!"
Cheng chuckled. "You're in for more surprises. Just wait until you try the roasted chestnuts."
As they continued exploring, they visited various sights, including a blacksmith's shop where General Yaun demonstrated his skills. Zixuan was impressed by both the general's craftsmanship and his own new friends' abilities.
During lunch at a cozy inn, the atmosphere was filled with laughter and light-hearted banter. Cheng took the opportunity to tease Zhan .
So," Cheng began with a mischievous grin, "did the *pillar* help you with your hairpin?"
Zhan nearly choked on his tea, glaring at his brother. "Not you too!" he groaned.
Cheng laughed, clearly enjoying the teasing. "Oh, come on, Zhan. Sneaking out in the middle of the night, bumping into General Yuan, getting all flustered-it's all very entertaining."
I just couldn't help but wondering how could you think that he was a pillar , "I thought it was a pillar in the dark, okay?"Zhan replied
Cheng snickered, waving a hand dismissively. "Sure, sure. But the hairpin is beautiful. A very thoughtful gift, don't you think?"
Zhan blushed, feeling self-conscious. "It's just... for winning the competition."
Cheng leaned back, smirking. "Of course. Nothing more."
Zhan groaned, burying his face in his hands, though he couldn't help but smile behind them. As annoying as his brother's teasing was, he knew it came from a place of affection. And despite the embarrassment, Zhan felt an overwhelming sense of happiness
Zixuan and genal Yaun was enhanced with some other talking so remained unaware of the teasing.
Harun, another palace general, entered the inn and saw the group. He approached Zhan, leaned in, and whispered, "Having a good time in disguise, Your Highness?" before giving a knowing glance and moving on. Zhan's eyes briefly flickered with surprise, but he quickly returned to the conversation.
After lunch, they spent the afternoon engaging in various fun activities. They played games with local children, tried their hand at archery, and participated in friendly competitions. General Yaun, though usually reserved, joined in with enthusiasm, adding to the enjoyment of the day.
As the sun began to set, Zhan led the group to a serene hill overlooking the city. They sat together, the colors of the sunset casting a warm glow over them. Zixuan, feeling a mix of happiness and unease, glanced at Zhan, his heart full of unspoken emotions.
As the evening progressed, the time came for Zixuan and his father to depart. Zhan ,Cheng ,king Jiang Min and general Yaun accompanied them to the palace gates, where the carriages awaited. Zhan, feeling a pang of sadness, reached into his cloak and presented Zixuan with a small, intricately wrapped box.
"This is for you, Prince Zixuan," Zhan said with a warm smile. "A small token of appreciation for your visit."
Zixuan opened the box to reveal a beautifully crafted pendant, symbolizing friendship and unity. His eyes widened with surprise and emotion. "This is... beautiful. Thank you, Zhan. It means a lot to me."
Zhan smiled, touched by Zixuan's reaction. "I'm glad you like it. I hope it serves as a reminder of our time together."
As Zixuan and his father prepared to leave, Zixuan's restlessness grew. The thought of parting from Zhan and the kingdom he had come to enjoy weighed heavily on him. His gaze lingered on Zhan, a mix of longing and sadness in his eyes.
The carriages began to move, and Zhan and Cheng waved goodbye. Zhan watched until they were out of sight, his own heart feeling the weight of the day's end. Cheng placed a comforting hand on Zhan's shoulder. "You did well today. I'm sure there will be more opportunities to see each other again."
Zhan nodded, feeling a sense of both fulfillment and longing. The day's memories would remain with him, a reminder of the unexpected connections and the joy of sharing his world with new friends. As he and Cheng walked back to the palace, the night sky above seemed to echo the promise of future encounters and the enduring value of the friendships forged through shared experiences.
