I opened my eyes and sat up in bed to turn off the alarm. After silencing it, I left my room to wash my face. The house was quiet. I had set my alarm earlier than usual, so even the sun hadn’t risen yet.
After washing my face and getting ready, I quietly left the house and started walking toward Minho’s house as the sun began to rise. Minho would probably have trouble waking up early.
As I approached Minho’s house, I realized for the first time that I was wrong about him. Minho was already up, standing in front of his house with Yongneul. Right, he had a girlfriend now.
I crossed to the other sidewalk to leave them alone. There was no point in going over to them. I’d just be torturing myself.
As I walked parallel to them toward school, I felt an arm drape over my shoulder from behind. Turning my head to the left, I saw Hyunjin. "You’re playing the hopeless lover again, I see," he said, making me roll my eyes.
Hyunjin ruffled Seungmin’s hair. "I’m just teasing."
"Minho, who sets a thousand alarms to wake up, is up this early for her. Can you believe it?"
"Guess that’s what love is like. I wouldn’t know much about it," he said, removing his arm from my shoulder. As we crossed the street, I could hear Minho and Yongneul behind us from their voices. "So, he’s really in love, huh?"
Hyunjin glanced at me with a sympathetic expression before nodding. "Looks like it," he said.
When we reached the street where the school was, I turned to Hyunjin. "Good luck." He returned the sentiment. Ignoring the couple hugging behind us, I headed toward the school entrance.

A week later, we decided to meet up and celebrate having shaken off all the stress. Since Felix and I arrived early, we sat quietly. When Minho arrived with a sullen expression and sat between us, I turned to him. "What happened?"
"I argued with Yongneul..." he sighed.
Already?
I put my hand on his shoulder and rubbed it. "Do you want to talk about it?" I asked calmly.
He let out a deep sigh. "It’s really a stupid reason. It wasn’t even worth arguing about, but she overreacted. I’m a bit upset."
Felix patted Minho’s back. "Don’t worry about it. You’ll clear your head today. When we get back, she’ll have calmed down, and you can talk about it calmly," he said, and I nodded in agreement. "Maybe she spoke harshly out of anger in the heat of the moment, but I’m sure that wasn’t her intention."
It was tragically ironic to comfort the boy I loved about his argument with his girlfriend. But no matter what I was feeling inside, I was still Minho’s friend. I had to console him.
