"He never realized. Has Kuroko always been like this?"

Midorima loses his lucky item, slight chaos ensues.
A.k.a. In which Midorima finds out how much his former teammate actually cares.

"Where is it..." The green-haired boy muttered to himself. He could have sworn he left it on the bench in the locker room; he wouldn't have put it anywhere else.

Cancers are ranked twelfth place on Oha Asa. It wouldn't be ideal for a Cancer, like Midorima, to play today but he needed to since Kuroko's team would be watching. Midorima wanted to show them that it was futile to challenge the Generation of Miracles. But he can't do that now; not without his lucky item. Without it, he wouldn't be able to make all his shots. So with his refusal to play without it, the Shūtoku team had to try and find his lucky item. Some of the team could tell that he wasn't as put together without it, he muttered more and was more fidgety. The rest thought he was spouting complete nonsense and would poke fun at the boy every so often.

There were about fifteen minutes until the coach came and they had to go on court to warm up; the item was still not found. Midorima noticeably got tenser and was pacing around the room for a bit. A knock on the door and a request to come inside caught the attention of all in the locker room. Midorima paused at the familiar voice then turned towards the door. Ōtsubo saw and called out that it was okay to come in out of curiosity of who the person was. To their surprise, it was a short boy with pale blue hair who entered. The captain noted the Seirin jacket with a matching jersey poking out and observed the boy with weary eyes. The win against Kaijō must have been luck, there was no way a team with someone so below average as a starter would have beaten a team with a member of the Generation of Miracles. The other team members were making their own impressions of the newcomer and only stopped when Midorima spoke.

"Kuroko-Kun?" Kuroko noticed how Midorima's eyes widened slightly in surprise before adjusting his glasses, "What are you doing here."

The air was tense. Midorima was confused as to why Kuroko was there since they never got along the best. Kuroko, though, just stared blankly at the younger, "I heard your manager say that you lost your lucky item." Midorima winced at that. He didn't want to be seen as irresponsible. He could also hear an almost unnoticeable scolding tone which was usually never used because of Kuroko's own monotone. Kuroko looked at Midorima one more time before he reached into his bag to pull out something.

A stuffed bear.

Kuroko then went in front of Midorima and handed it to the boy, "You can have it."

Midorima was speechless, "W- How...?" Why did he have a stuffed bear? He was an Aquarius so why would he be holding the lucky item for Cancers?

Kuroko noticed Midorima's well-hidden confusion, "I keep Cancer's lucky item on me at all times just in case you don't have yours. I made it a habit when you left your lucky item at home sometime during first year. I haven't been able to break it." He turned back towards the exit after looking at Midorima one last time and left saying a small goodbye knowing that there was nothing else left to say.

Midorima just looked at the bear in his hands. He never realized. Has Kuroko always been like this?
