Milae couldn't understand why Sorren wasn't home yet, nor could she understand why Waylen was freaking out so much. Virginia definitely knew where Sorren was but wouldn't tell her if her life depended on it. Sai was already asleep, and he wasn't waking up for anything. Milae was absent mindedly sitting on the couch, half watching the Hunger Games. The brutal murder scene that was currently playing wasn't doing anything to lighten the mood. Waylen sat down in an incredibly ugly chair that Milae didn't even know that they had. He ran his hands down his face before placing them on his bouncing knees. He had been freaking out for over an hour and it was starting to get on the girl's nerves.
"Will you quit freaking out?" Virginia said, breaking the painful silence. It was more of a demand than an ask, so Waylen tried his best.
After a moment he said, "Sorry, I'm just worried." Milae rolled her eyes. "What?" Waylen said, "can't I be worried?"
Milae looked up. "Well, yes, obviously, you get to be worried, but I know literally nothing. Sorren didn't tell me he was leaving or where he was going. Neither of you are telling me anything, and it's very obvious that you do know so don't try to lie to me. Sai physically can't tell me anything because he sleeps like a rock. Even if he was awake, I doubt that-" The brunette's rant was cut off by the sound of knocking on the door. The trio sits there for a moment, just staring at each other. None of them jump up to get the door because they all know that Sorren would never knock. The person knocks on the door again, louder this time.
"Los Angeles County police department, open the door." The police? The police?! Why were the police at their door? Surely it couldn't be because of Sorren, right? Waylen went to go get the door, Milae and Virginia quickly following behind, both eager to see what was going on.
When Waylen opened the door, two police officers were standing in the door way. "Good evening," The shorter female said. "I'm officer Marza. My friend here is the chief of police, Chief Rodriguez. We were wondering if a Sorren Marko lives here?" Officer Marza tries to look around Waylen to see the inside of the house. When she spots Milae, she raises her eyebrows a bit.
"Can I speak with you outside?" Waylen asked, looking back at Milae. Marza understood how he was feeling and nodded. Waylen stepped out of the threshold and shut the door behind himself. Almost immediately after the door shut, loud foot steps came running down the stairs. Sai rounded the corner and quickly walked up to Virginia and Milae.
"Why are there two officers outside with Waylen?" He asked frantically.
Before Virginia could stop her, Milae blurted out, "Sorren's missing, Waylen and Virginia know where he is but won't tell me, now the chief of the Los Angeles police is looking for him but I don't know why." Sai couldn't control the shocked look that crossed his face.
"Why are you surprised?" Virginia questioned. "I feel like he most definitely has done this before." Sai frowned. "Yeah well-" Virginia walked by and patted his shoulder. "You and Milae should go to bed. When you wake up, it will all be over. Sorren will be home, the cops will be gone, and we will tell you what happened in the morning."
Milae spoke up. "Will you though?" The distrust in her voice was clear as day. Virginia looked back at her and said, "Yes. I pinky promise."
_-_-_-_-_
The sound of glass shattering distracts Milae from her night time routine. She looks around her room. The sound came from somewhere near by. She knew it wasn't her room though. Maybe then next room over? All of a sudden, she gets really scared. Has the house always been this quite? It seems as though the glass breaking made all the sound stop. The paranoia starts creeping into her soul as she truly starts freaking out. She jumps when she hears a loud knock on her door. She doesn't answer, her own fear making her go mute. She turns around the stare at the door, willing whatever is on the other side to go away. It doesn't, and soon the door is creaking open. Milae grips the pink hairbrush in her hand tighter as she stays as still as possible. The door opens up all the way and Sai peaks his head through the door. Milae lets out a breath she didn't even know she was holding.
"What the heck Sai? You scared the crap out of me," Milae complains.
Sai looks over at her, clearly terrified. "So you heard it too?" It seemed as though the glass sound really got to him. "You mean the glass? I thought that was you?" Milae questions. All of the bedrooms were on this floor. Waylen was outside with the cops still, so in no way could it have been him. Virginia and Sai were the only other suspects seeing as Sorren was still missing and Milae knew it wasn't her. She got up and walked across the room to look out the window. It seemed as though the cops heard the sound to and were trying to get inside to take a peek.
"We should probably check Waylen and Sorren's rooms just to be sure that nothing happened and make sure that anything that doesn't need to be seen isn't." Milae told Sai while walking toward the door. Sai tried to stop her from leaving.
"Or maybe we don't do anything and let things play out. We can stay here in your room where we can be safe."
Milae turned back to look at him. "What can I do to make you come with me? Because I'm not leaving you here."
Sai still looked uncertain. "Well, I don't really-" Milae grabbed his hand and pulled him out her room.
"Just come with you loser." Milae kept a firm grip on Sai's hand as they walked to the door of Sorren's room. Milae creaked open the door and stepped inside, pulling Sai with her.
The moment they stepped into his room, it felt like there was a dark menacing aura crawling up their backs. Milae went to go turn on the light switch, only to discover that it didn't work. "Well isn't that comforting," Sai said, pointing to the window. In the dim moon light, the only thing visible of the window was the frame and the large, sharp hole right in the middle. Milae walked up and stuck her head out of the window.
"Milae...." The girl couldn't see Sai, but she could hear the fear in his voice.
"What?" Milae responded.
"Maybe we should leave..."
Milae sighed. She was so done with his crap. "Quit being a baby and man up. It's not a big deal."Sai remained silent. Milae sighed. She looked out of the window for a moment longer, letting the wind brush across her face. Even though it was probably well past midnight, light from the full moon helped so it wasn't pitch black. Milae was quickly pulled from her thoughts when she felt breathing on the back of her neck. She knew it couldn't be Sai; she would have heard him walking up. When she feels a hand being placed on her shoulder, she whips around, the sharp glass swiping across her cheek, leaving a cut.
The hand on her shoulder is quickly removed. When Milae looks up, she sees Sorren with his hands raised as if the cops had already found him. "Relax, it's just me," Sorren says, as if he wasn't missing for hours.
Milae peers around Sorren to look at Sai. "Why didn't you tell me that he was coming?" She complained.
"That's literally what I was trying to tell you!" Sai shoots back, absolutely fed up with Milae. "You never listen to me!" He throws his hands up in the air and walks out of the room. Not even a minute later, he rushes back inside and slams the door. He locks it and starts building a barricade out of the assorted items on the ground.
"What are you doing?" Sorren asks. Sai turns around. "You need to hide," Sai say, completely avoiding the question.
"Why?" Milae asks. Sai pushes Sorren's nightstand to block the door. "Please just do it," Sai begs. "I don't want anything bad to happen right now." Sai never begs. Something was wrong.
A loud banging on the door makes it obvious what was wrong. "Hey, open up, I know that Sorren is in there!" Officer Marza was at the door. That's not good. Sorren's reaction doesn't change at all.
"And so what if I am?" Sorren slowly starts to move the makeshift barricade out of the way. "What will you do about?" Sai tries to get Sorren to stop, but nothing is working. "What are you going to do about it?" Sorren says again.
"What are you doing??" Sai asks. Sorren has never acted like this before. He continued moving the items until they were all gone. He stood in front of the door for a minute before reaching into a bag on the ground and pulling out a knife. "W-What are you doing...?" Sai asks again.
"Don't worry," Sorren says, "This will all be over soon."
