How I cope with my granny
One Sunday, i went to visit my family at home along with my husband and my child when my grandmother's critical comments started to escalate. She complained about the food, the noise, and even the way people were sitting.My husband began to tense up, and the atmosphere grew strained. I remembered the connection i made with her during my previous visits and decided to try a different approach.
I calmly excused myself and asked my grandmother to join me for a walk outside. As we strolled through the garden, i gently asked my granny what was bothering her.
She opened up about her frustrations and feelings of being overwhelmed. I listened attentively, acknowledging her emotions and offering words of comfort.
When we returned inside, i suggested a family activity that my grandmother could lead, like sharing stories or teaching a traditional recipe. This helped shift the focus away from criticism and towards positive interactions.
My husband began to relax, and the tension dissipated. My grandmother's demeanor softened, replaced by a sense of purpose and connection.
From then on, whenever she started to get agitated, i would find ways to redirect the conversation or engage her in activities that brought her joy. My empathy and understanding helped create a more harmonious atmosphere at home.
As time passed, my family noticed the positive change in my grandmother's behavior. She was more patient, kind, and even playful at times. My efforts to understand and connect with her had created a ripple effect, improving relationships throughout the household.One day, my mother approached you with tears in her eyes.
