Darkness. That's how the worst sleep of my life started. I had just returned from hanging out with Annabeth over at the beach and as soon as my head hit the pillow I was asleep. I slept for what seemed like all of 20 minutes before the nightmares started. The first of many was interesting, I had met up with Grover for some quality time with him. We walked into the subway stop when Grover fell. Then everyone fell but me. I rushed to Grover trying to figure out what he was saying but to no avail, it was a distinct mumble that grew quieter and quieter until he stopped. I stood up and tried to run out of the station but my legs were glued to the ground, the only time I had this feeling was when I faced Kronos and Gary, one of which was a better encounter than the other. I looked around, trying to find the strength to move to no avail, when I saw him. Luke. I had spent the first 4 years at Camp trying to stop him from taking over the world while grappling with the fact that Annabeth had feelings for him. And there he was over Annabeth's dead body blood glistening from his sword. She was supposed to be in camp but he had lured her there. I roared and all of the water in the pipes around us burst through the walls, only this time I couldn't breathe. I was stuck, the love of my life dead, I was about to join her with my best friend, and the man responsible wasn't even struggling to breathe.
"Valient effort little hero, not enough though" were the last words I heard from the demonic voice I had silenced 2 years ago.
The rest of my sleep was nightmares of everyone I held close dying because I couldn't do anything. The worst was the last one. It was a normal day at camp and I thought this would be my first normal dream in a while. I walked out of my cabin and headed towards the Athena cabin. After all my dreams of Annabeth dying with everyone else, I had to make sure she was all right even if it was just a dream. I ran in and saw no one, I was starting to get a weird feeling as I had seen no one as I approached the cabin, I ran around camp seeing no one until I heard shouting in the distance by the trees. As I approached the tree line I saw monsters clashing with demigods and in the center of it all was Annabeth. She was in full combat gear, her curly hair pulled back into a ponytail with her blade and shield out. She was slashing and dicing with such art I just wanted to admire her in all her beauty. I snapped out of it and ran to her, we were hopelessly outnumbered but I pulled out riptide and started to fight my way to Annabeth. I sliced, sidestepped, and twirled leaving nothing but dust in my wake, nothing was going to stop me from getting to her. At long last after about 10 minutes, I reached her.
" took you long enough seaweed brain," she said as she cut down a monster
"Sorry for the delay" I replied slashing through a Furie, This went on for another hour or so until the last one was cut down.
"How'd they get in? And why?" I asked Annabeth, but as I turned around to face her I saw her lying on the ground in a pool of her blood, standing over her was me. No one else was there, no monster dust, no nothing it was just her in her camp t-shirt jeans, and Converse, no armor, I was covered in tiny slashes from her sword but nothing fatal, I had just killed the love of my life because I hallucinated she was a mob of enemies. I dropped to my knees and cradled her, her breath was getting shallow,
"Why Percy, why?" were her last words as the light from her sparkling grey eyes was extinguished. I sobbed and cried into her blood-stained shirt not understanding why I would do such a thing. I stood up and stabbed myself through the heart with the knife on her arm, I couldn't bear to live in a world where my wise girl was gone and I was the reason why.
