Being a meteorology major in the most northern region of the midwest isn't the easiest. I was born and raised in Wisconsin. We don't get much severe weather here as far as tornadoes go. We'll get lucky with a few EF1s or 2s here and there but even that was a crap shoot. I'm currently in my 2nd year of college. Being 5'1 and only 19, I'm still mistaken for a High School Junior.
With my program, I've been granted the opportunity to have an internship with Storm-Par out in Oklahoma to gain college credits that'll help me graduate, If I keep it up, I could even graduate early If I wanted too. I was to go for the Spring and Summer season then head back out to Wisconsin when I finished. During my time away I'm still required to do some online school work but nearly, not as much as if I was there in person. They'll also send me monthly eval sheets to confirm I'm growing and learning at a respectable pace.
Currently flying out to Oklahoma, I was nervous. The first time on a plane alone and being away from home for so long was definitely a new feeling. Much anxiety flew through my body as the plane landed knowing I'm about to start a whole new beginning. The program I'm in sponsored by my college is generous enough to pay for my rental car and hotels. Even groceries and other essentials but that's only until I start getting my paychecks from Storm-par then all the groceries and other things are on me but I'm beyond grateful they're providing a car and hotels. That being said I hopped off the plane as I was walking to baggage claim. It definitely wasn't easy to fit months worth of clothes and essentials into one suitcase but I packed enough to last me until I was to get my first paycheck.
My rental car was gorgeous. It was a 2024 Black Nissan Sentra. Clean with beautiful interior. I was loving my new life for the next few months already. I hook my phone up to the Apple Car Play that was programmed into the car, immediately playing my favorite spotify playlist, afterwards punching in the address to the hotel.
Tomorrow was immediately going to be a long day getting settled and starting the first day on the job. I swung my bags onto the bed of my hotel room and started unpacking. I laid out my clothes for tomorrow picking a white crop top with a pair of blue jean shorts, knowing my outfit won't matter too much since I'll be provided with a uniform the second I walk in.
