Stars...

You dont think youve ever seen them so clear. Little white lights twinkling above you like diamonds.

You watched in awe as shooting stars flew across the sky with trails of cosmic dust following close behind. You even gasped in wonder as you spotted various planets ranging in colors you thought not possible.

"What do you think baby?" a comforting female voice asked you. A voice that sounded so far away and yet seemed to be all around you─like an echo in a cave.

"Its beautiful! I love it!" you squealed in joy as you stared up at the glow-in-the-dark stickers on your bedroom ceiling.

Your mother─whose dark form was outlined in the doorway of your bedroom─smiled affectionately at you.

"I am so glad to hear that babydoll!" your mother responded sweetly, the corners of her lips pulling upwards to show a perfect smile, "Now time for bed sweetheart! You have school in the morning!"

"Wait!" you cried out, jolting upright in your bed, "I wanna hear a story!"

"But baby, its already so late..." your mother said as she crossed her arms across her chest.

"Pleeeeaaaasssee!" you begged as you stared up at her with pleading eyes.

"Well..." your mother started, debating the request.

But as soon as she saw your begging eyes, she let out a long defeated sigh and walked over to the side of your bed, gently plopping down next to you.

"Okay, fine, but ONE story, okay?"

"Okay!" you said happily, laying back down in your bed contently and snuggling into your comforter.

"Now, what kind of story do you want to hear?" your mother asked.

"...I wanna hear another one of your stories from Pandora..." you said sheepishly as you snuggled deeper into the blankets of your bed, a sweet smile on your chubby little face as you stared up at her.

"Another one?" your mother asked, though there was no surprise in her voice, "Oh, baby, I think Ive told you just about every story about Pandora!"

"Then tell me the one about the...the N...Naive!"

"You mean the Na'vi?"

"Yeah!"

"You mean the first time I met them?"

"Yeah!"

Your mother hummed for a moment and tapped a finger against her chin, quietly considering the request.

"Well...okay, fine--"

You squealed loudly in excitement, clenching your comforter as you kicked your feet with joy.

"--but real quick, cause you REALLY need to go to bed. We dont want to be late for the bus again in the morning."

"Okay, okay!" you said quickly, quieting down as you stared up at your mother intently, giving her your complete attention.

Your mother waited patiently until you got comfortable in your bed and quieted down. When you made no other movement or sound, she gently folded her hands in her lap and took a deep breathe.

"...It all began when I got lost my first day on Pandora. I was supposed to stay close to the senior scientists as we collected samples from several different species of trees─if you remember we were studying the electrical signals in the tree roots─but by sheer misfortune, I got separated by my team when a stampeding herd of..."
