The buzz of Cape Town's cultural festival felt  almost too much for Zanele. After months of feeling stuck in a dark cloud of sadness, she had finally found the courage to leave her apartment and join the world again. The festival, with its colorful stalls and lively music, was a big change from the dull, empty days she had been living.

As she walked through the festival, Zanele felt both excited and nervous. The fun atmosphere—the laughter of kids with painted faces, the yummy smell of street food, and the lively music—was both refreshing and a bit overwhelming. It had been so long since she'd allowed herself to enjoy something like this. Everything around her reminded her of the joyful life she'd been missing.

Her attention was drawn to a busy area where people were looking at artwork. Zanele's heart skipped a beat when she saw Tariq, a childhood friend who had become a successful  artist, surrounded by people admiring his work. Seeing him brought back old memories of happier times.

When Tariq noticed her, his face lit up with genuine surprise and joy. "Zanele! I didn't expect to see you here," he said warmly. He came over and gave her a friendly hug, making her feel noticed.

"I needed to get out," Zanele said softly. "I've been feeling stuck for so long, and I thought coming here might help."

Tariq looked at her with a kind smile. "It's great to see you. Sometimes, the echoes of our past you know, those little reminders of who we used to be—can help us find our way back. It's like hearing a familiar song in a crowded room. Maybe those echoes are trying to show you what's really important."

Zanele felt a small spark of hope mixed with her sadness. Tariq's words seemed to offer a hint of hope, suggesting that reconnecting with her past joys and people might help her feel better.
