Max had just returned to the palace after a long, exhausting day of classes. He felt like collapsing, but he knew his day wasn't over yet. His responsibilities as Princess Elena's double-in-training required him to study her every gesture, movement, and expression, ensuring he could one day pass for her in public if needed. He had already gotten used to the routine of practicing how to walk, talk, and act like her. But today, as he entered the training room and slipped on the usual high heels and voice-changing necklace, something felt different.
Just as he was about to start, Princess Elena herself appeared at the door, smiling in her typical mischievous way.
"There you are, Max," she said, her eyes gleaming. "No training today."
Max paused, confused. "No training? What's going on?"
Elena's smile widened. "I've got something else in mind. Follow me."
Reluctantly, Max followed her down the corridor, the heels clicking against the floor as he tried his best to stay balanced. They walked in silence through the palace halls until they reached Elena's private chambers. She opened the door, gesturing for him to enter.
"Come on in," she said with a teasing smile.
Max hesitated but stepped inside. He'd been in Elena's room only a few times, and the elegance of it always took him by surprise. The room was lavish, with a large canopy bed, velvet curtains, and an array of luxurious furniture. But what caught him off guard this time was how relaxed Elena seemed.
Elena walked over to the bed and sat down, crossing her legs elegantly. "Take a seat," she ordered, patting the space next to her.
Max obeyed, though his mind raced with questions. What was this about?
"So," Elena began, "I realized that I don't know much about you, Max."
Max blinked, taken aback. "Me? Why would you—"
Elena interrupted, "Yes, you. You're always so quiet about yourself. Tell me how you ended up here."
Max rubbed the back of his neck, feeling awkward. "Uh, well... it's a bit embarrassing."
Elena's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Even better! Go on."
Max sighed, realizing there was no way out of it. "Alright, fine. Back in school, some girls played a prank on me. They dressed me up in girls' clothes—makeup, wig, everything. Then they took pictures and posted them online."
Elena chuckled, raising an eyebrow. "That sounds amusing."
Max groaned. "It wasn't for me. It went viral, and for weeks I couldn't go anywhere without people recognizing me as the 'girl' in the photos. The weird thing is, when they were done with the makeup... I kind of looked like you."
Elena's laughter echoed through the room. "So, you've already been my double once before! That's priceless."
Max rolled his eyes. "Yeah, real funny."
Elena stood up, pacing around the room. "Well, now that you've admitted to your past experience, I think we need to take things up a notch."
Max raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
Elena turned to him, her smile turning sly. "As my double, you're not just here to train. You're also here to assist me. In all things."
Max's heart raced. "What are you talking about?"
