It was the first night of the Halloween Weekend Festival. The entire town was here or so it seemed. It was a bit past 9PM and the sun was resting. The autumn air was cool and it smelled like damp earth all around.

Rides, face painting, fun houses and all kinds of activities for people of all ages occupied the town square, though it seemed to be mostly adults right now since it was a school night.

The far right of the festivities was the main reason you were here. The haunted hay maze. It was locally known and word spread fast of its level of intensity.

People who donned too realistic and terrifying costumes leaping out of random corners, making you jump while you searched for the exit. You could get kidnapped, trapped. Anything was on the table after you signed a waiver, except murder of course. Not many who went in ever finished and if you did, you got absolutely nothing so it wasn't even worth it to most.

Every year, there were the poor individuals who had panic attacks. One year, two people had heart attacks. Most people seemed to shout the "safe word" and were escorted out not even halfway through the maze. But you didn't think it could be that bad.

You stood in line impatiently, internally bouncing with joy. Most people seemed to have a group of friends with them but you were alone. It was "tradition" that if a person went in alone, the workers tried extra hard.

It was almost your turn with one group ahead of you. You felt a tap on your shoulder and turned. "Are you going in alone?" The stranger asked. You nodded with a smile and you relieved a look along the lines of "What the fuck". You turned back around, ignoring the quieted words from the stranger he exchanged with his friends of you being crazy.

"Going in alone, little one?" The worker asked. They were masked and dressed as a clown. You nodded again. "Oooo, foolishly brave. Good luck." The worker hissed before motioning you in. "We have a loner!" he shouted into a megaphone. Laughs and screeches of all kinds filled your ears.

As you walked, you heard a scream but kept going. Another scream, this time with the weird "help!" or at least that's what you thought it sounded like. Workers of the maze popped out left and right, making you scream with both fear and excitement.

The longer you went through the maze, the fewer the scares came. You grew confused but kept walking until a man with a knife and skull mask nonchalantly walked around a corner. It was dark. Your only source of light were dimly lit tiki torches along the walls. He was in a black hoodie that looked wet and jeans that were covered in what looked like blood. He was breathing heavily but he wasn't scary looking.

"Hi," You said quietly for reasons unknown. "Hi," he responded, his voice raspy with a British accent. "You're not so scary." You teased playfully as your once rapid heartbeat was steadying. "You don't think so?" He asked with a grin in his eyes. You shook your head and put your hands behind your back, "All by yourself?" he asked as he looked around. "Yeah, I don't have many friends."

Ghost

Pulling the knife from the innocent bystander's chest he stood up, Ghost wiped the blade on his pants. He wasn't going to kill her but when she yelled for help he had no choice. He walked through the maze, not really lost but he didn't have a destination in mind. He had a list of people he wanted gone and 4 of the 6 were already dead, plus the innocent woman. When he turned the corner, he ran into a woman who he assumed was just a customer. "Hi," she said ever so sweetly. Poor thing has no idea I just killed 5 people for no real good reason. "Hi," he said back.

As you stood there, so innocently clueless, Ghost became more and more infatuated with you. He took a step towards you, expecting you to move back but you stood still. "You shouldn't be in here alone." he said smoothly. "Why?" you asked with a subtle doe look in your eyes. Fuckin' hell. "You aren't scared of me at all?" he asked, sounding surprised. You shook your head with a smile.
