One of the most important rules must be followed for your own good.

Do not enter the cities.

The second rule is just as important, maybe even a little more.

Do not go out after sunset.

Daya can't tell if the sounds she hears are endless sirens from inside the city she once called home, or if they're the sounds of the painful and terrified screams she heard when her and her sister escaped before the smoke could engulf them. Sometimes from the windows of an old abandoned building she now calls home, she can see big clouds of sawdust puff up in the sky in the distance and hear the sound of something falling to the ground. The city she grew up in was in shambles, filled with the infected.

The infected who were starting to venture out of the city limits.

Daya knew she had to stay put. Hidden away with the others who had escaped was the only way for survival. That, and the gas mask strapped to her head and the assortment of weapons raided from homes that had burned to the ground around them. But her sister was gone. And so was her sister's girlfriend. She can't stay put when she has a feeling they can't come back on their own. Even if that means having to break some rules.

Bosco and Irene tried to stick to the rules, but it wasn't easy. Not when out on their own. Having been kicked out of an underground refuge when Irene caught the infection, the sisters were completely alone in a world that was crumbling before their eyes.

Though not far in age, Bosco felt as if it was her job to protect her younger sister. Even if the other girl was infected. Even if it meant having to amputate her own sister's arm in an attempt to stop the infection from progressing. It seems to have worked, and Irene is slowly gaining what she had originally lost back. But it doesn't mean things are going to be any easier.

Traumatized beyond repair and having to survive in a world that seems to be beyond saving is not going to be easy. Not when things are only getting worse.

But when they find each other, maybe there's some hope that it could be okay.

Little bit of The Last of Us, little bit of an infection au, and a dash of psychological horror.

I'll be posting status updates when needed for certain characters on my profile. General content warning for stuff like body horror and gore
