"Help me" a voice pleaded in my head. I stopped in my tracks. What was that? I thought to myself. "What's wrong?" My best friend asked. I looked at her and asked "Did you hear someone asking for help?".
"No, why?Did you hear it?" She replied. "Yeah, I just heard someone say 'Help me' ". "I bet it's your super power, Mai!" She exclaimed.
"Maybe...but anyway, what was that place you were talking about?" I asked her.
"Oh right! So anyway....." she blabbered on and on.While she's talking, let me take the chance to introduce myself. I'm Kagura Mai, a first year at Hakusen high school. I am 15 years old and I live in Kyoto with my parents and my older brother.
My best friend, who is currently blabbering, is Michi Kyouko. She's the same age and we both go to the same highschool. We were together since kindergarten, and we always had the same classes, and in group projects we were always together, and in- well you get the idea.
We got home before Kyouko could start making me fall asleep with all that talking. "Tadaima" I said entering my house. "Okaeri" I heard my family say. I walked into the living room to see my Mom,Dad, and Brother watching a movie.
"What movie is that?" I asked them. "It's Mitsugahara Kagurasaka. Its about ....( read the summary).
"Ah, I see" I told them. "And the wierd thing is" my mom continued "I've been hearing rumors about people wondering the forest and seeing an old shrine.Although, when they try to get closer they find themselves turning around and going back. No one could get close. They all found themselves turning around and going back." She finished.
"And also, people have been hearing noises in the shrine, like whispers" my dad continued for her.
"Stop trying to scare us, Mom,Dad. There's no way that could happen!" My brothered laughed.
"Right, Mai?"my brother asked me.
"Y-Yeah, sure" I sweat dropped. "What's wrong, Mai?" He asked. "Ah, nothing!" I replied.I knew he was lying. He has the same power I have. Let me explain the story behind our power. One summer when my brother and I were 5, our family went to Okinawa. We were staying in a beach house close to a old shrine.
When our parents went out with their friends, my brother and I went to that shrine. When we got there, there was a young priestess sweeping the ground.
She looked at us and asked us if we could see her. We nodded in reply. "Good, Do you want to see other spirits?" She asked us. We only nodded in reply. We were young back then and didn't know what the word 'spirits' mean.
"Come with me"she told us. We followed her into the shrine. She told us to sit down and we did. She wrote something on our forehead and she said "seal" while doing some kind of hand sign.
That moment we saw a lot of different kinds of spirits surrounding us with faces of curiosity and kindness. "Can you see us?" they asked. We nodded our heads in amazement.
"Now that your seal is complete, let me tell you the rules on your seal. When you leave Okinawa, your powers will weaken. Other than that, you can see spirits, bring spirits to the light, and also the power to break barriers and curses.
You two also have secret powers that can only be revealed to you unless you allow the power to be seen by others. Ah! One other thing! You can also recieve pleadings of spirits, so if you hear voices in your head it's from spirits!" She smiled.
We nodded. "Alright, now that's all settled want to play with us?" The spirits asked us.(A/N:They are really a mix of spirits and youkai, but I'm going to start using the word youkai.Sorry I didn't start that it in the beginning:( )
