Song of the chapter: Heavy By The marias

Chapter: 01

6 am, Seoul

The shrill beep of Jisung's alarm sliced through the early morning quiet. He groaned, eyes still closed, a hand reaching out to slap the snooze button. Another year, another round of tired mornings and busy schedules. As he buried his face deeper into his pillow, the reality hit: it was the first day back at school.

Groggily, he dragged himself upright, stifling a yawn. "Why the hell did I set that again?" he muttered to himself, running a hand through his messy hair. Despite his reluctance to face the day, there was a small part of him curious to see who his roommate would be this year. Maybe Felix again? That would be nice. He smirked at the thought, pushing himself up from the bed.

Stumbling into the bathroom, he lazily brushed his teeth, his phone buzzing on the counter. He glanced at the screen without bothering to check who it was, swiping to answer the call. Immediately, a voice he knew all too well filled the space.

"Jisung!" Felix's enthusiastic shout came through loud and clear, despite the hour.

"It's six in the morning, tone it down," Jisung replied, the words almost slipping into a tired laugh. Only Felix could sound this excited before the sun had fully risen.

Felix didn't seem to hear the sarcasm in Jisung's voice, continuing to ramble on about how pumped he was for the new school year. Jisung half-listened as he finished getting ready, cleaning up his side of the room and slipping on his shoes, trying to ignore the growing feeling of anticipation bubbling in his chest.

He walked to campus with his headphones on, the soothing rhythm of his playlist mixing with the stillness of the morning air. The late-blooming cherry blossoms hung lazily from the trees, their soft pink petals drifting to the ground with each breeze. Jisung inhaled deeply, the scent of spring mixing with the crisp promise of the new year ahead.

It was strange, returning after the break. It had felt like both forever and no time at all since the last semester ended. There was something nostalgic in the air—something bittersweet. He adjusted his backpack, feeling its familiar weight as he approached the school gates. He couldn't help but notice the laughter of his classmates, the familiar faces, the hum of the campus coming alive again.

As he walked toward the entrance, he let one earbud fall out, and for a moment, the campus buzz seemed to fill him with an odd warmth. He half-smiled to himself, realizing that despite everything, there was a part of him that was looking forward to the year ahead.
