Six Months Ago..

HASEENA ❤️

"Are you absolutely sure you don’t want to take this movie?" My secretary, Isha, asked in a tone filled with surprise as I turned down a film from a major production house.

"Haan, The storyline is terrible, and have you even read it? What's my role in this movie? It’s just for show, I'll be the lead in name only. If I take on a project like this, my own fans will end up hating me..!" I replied, my voice laced with frustration.

"I understand, but yeh big budget movie hai, aur agar yeh hit huyi toh your career will skyrocket to heights  you’ve never reached before," Isha insisted, her concern evident. As my well-wisher, I know she means well, but if I agree to this film, I’ll be reduced to a mere prop in every future project, and I refuse to let that happen.

(I understand, but this is a big-budget film. If it becomes a hit, your career will skyrocket to heights you’ve never reached before).

"I know, but I just don’t want to take on roles like this anymore. Yaad hai na, meri fourth movie bhi aisi hi thi? It gave my career a boost and recognition, sure, but my fans hated me for choosing that role after I had done such meaningful work in low-budget films," I replied, picking up my nail polish and casually beginning to apply it to the nails on my left hand.

"Par Haseena, agar tumne yeh movie ke liye na bola, toh phir koi badi production house tumhare saath kaam nahi karegi. This could hurt your career! You’re an actress, not a male actor who can still get lead roles after fifty. You should say yes; this could be your big break!" Isha urged, her voice tinged with desperation.

(Haseena, if you turn down this movie, no major production house will want to work with you again.)

"Par mujhe nahi karna. I don’t care if I don’t get movies after this. I'll do OTT, but I won’t work with this production house, and that’s final," I said, my tone firm and unwavering, leaving no room for argument.

(But I don’t want to. I don’t care if I don’t get any more movies after this. I’ll move to OTT platforms if I have to, but I will not work with this production house, and that’s my final decision.)

Isha sighed, her shoulders slumping as she walked away, phone in hand, clearly frustrated. I knew all too well that if I had agreed to the movie, it would’ve given my fading career the boost it desperately needed. The production house would promote me like they do with all their other stars. But I couldn’t bring myself to work with that damn production house, not when it belongs to my ex’s father in law and his fiancee.

They have no idea I was once his girlfriend, and they’d definitely cast him opposite me. No one in the industry knows about our past because I ended the relationship before my career even began.

There was a time when I was madly in love with him, worshipping him like he was everything. But all he ever wanted was to use me as a stepping stone for his own ambitions. That kind of betrayal is something you don’t forget easily.

Men like him and that kind of fake love made me swear off any relationships with people from the industry. I’ve kept my distance, except for a few co-actors who have always respected my boundaries and never crossed the line. They never showed off their unnecessary star attitude, and for that, I’m grateful. But trust? That’s something I’ve been careful with ever since.

"Kya hua Bhai, kis soch mein dubi hai hamari Sundari ji..!" I was so absorbed in my thoughts when I heard the familiar voice of my only brother, Sameer, who sat beside me and wrapped his arm around me in a warm hug.
