I knocked on the door and my mom opened it. I hugged her and said, "I missed you so much". She released herself from the hug to look at me and said, "I missed you too". My dad came out of the kitchen talking to someone inside. I wondered who was there. He saw me and he rushed to hug me. "How are you my son?", he said patting my back. They were behaving like nothing happened and weren't angry on me. I imagined a lot of things would happen when I met them but they were calm. I was confused as to what was happening when my eyes met hers as she came out of the kitchen holding a tray asking "did the guest arrive already?". I stood in shock and my jaw dropped seeing her. "What is she doing here?" I thought to myself.

"Yeah. Our guest is here", my mom chuckled as she held my arm and made me sit on the sofa. Even Lexi was shocked to see me. She didn't expect me to be there. But the way my parents got along with her made me wonder what did she do to them. I was about to explain them everything but before I did my mom stopped me and said, "First go and fresh up yourself". I nodded and stood up to go upstairs.

The moment I entered the room, I found Lexi's stuff everywhere. "So she is feeling at home I guess. Let her come. I'm going to make her explain. She made me roam around the streets the whole night and here she is at 'my' home enjoying herself". I went and showered. As I was changing, she entered the room which made me startled. As soon as she saw me, she turned around. "Can't you knock?", I said making her turn to face me. "I can't", she said and folded her arms and rolled her eyes.

"What's with all of that? My parents being so nice to you. What did you tell them? Are you making all my people to be on your side? First, Danny and now, my parents. How is everything so easy for you? Did you play the victim card again? As I blurted out my thoughts, I saw her face suddenly changed and she looked down on the floor. She didn't look at my face and she rushed out of the room.

I knew I was so mean. I went downstairs and joined my dad on the table. Lexi was helping my mom lay down the dishes on the table. I looked at her now and then but she avoided me completely. Even while passing the plate, she looked down. "Why am I feeling bad now? This is what I wanted...to make her regret marrying me. But whenever I do something that hurt her, it makes me feel bad".

After we had dinner, my mom brought Lexi to the hall where my dad and I are already seated. She sat opposite to me on the couch near my mom. My mom had also brought some old albums with our family pictures. She showed Lexi some of my embarrassing pictures and even told their back story. I facepalmed myself as I was dying out of embarrassment. I couldn't stop her as she was going on and on. I rushed out to the garden followed by my dad.

"She seems to be so nice", my dad said looking at me referring to Lexi. "But dad...", I started when he said, "it takes courage to admit a mistake and Lexi travelled all the way here to tell us that it wasn't your fault. I think you both should give yourselves a chance". He patted my shoulder and went inside before I responded.

I followed him back and sat on the sofa. I saw my mom who was so happy to tell my embarrassing stories and was laughing heartily about it. My dad also joined them. Lexi was also sharing her childhood stories and laughing with them but as soon as she saw me, she stopped smiling and moved her gaze to avoid my face. Why is it hurting me?
