Selene returned to her dorm room, her mind buzzing with all the thoughts about how she gonna survive in this wolf world.
Selene had barely sat down to gather her thoughts when Aria appeared at the door, her silver-brown curls framing her face."Hey",
"Ready for dinner?" Aria asked with a bright smile, though Selene could still sense that ever-present enigma in her demeanor.
Selene nodded, forcing a smile. "Sure."
As they walked toward the dining hall, Aria continued talking, her voice light and conversational.
"You know, you're really lucky to have Martin looking out for you. He's one of the few who doesn't get too caught up in the hierarchy around here."
Selene raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
Aria glanced around as if checking for eavesdroppers. "Everyone here cares about where they fall in the social order Scion, Laboris, Nomad. It's all anyone talks about. But Martin... he's different. He doesn't care about that stuff. He's a bit of a rebel, really."
Selene felt a flicker of admiration for Martin. She'd sensed that about him, but hearing it from Aria made it clearer.
As they entered the grand dining hall, Selene saw clusters of students grouped together. The Scion sat at one table, their posture and demeanor exuding authority. The Laboris occupied another, more subdued but still strong in their presence. Then there were the Nomads scattered, sitting alone or in small, quiet groups.
Selene felt all eyes on her as she entered. Whispers followed her as she walked alongside Aria to an empty table. Her unease deepened, but she forced herself to focus on the task at hand blending in, learning the ropes, and keeping her hybrid nature hidden.
Once seated, Aria leaned in. "So, did Martin tell you about the Verdant Pack?"
Selene nodded slowly, unsure of how much to reveal.
Aria chuckled. "Of course he did. Everyone's fascinated by Allen Rae and his group. They're kind of like celebrities here." Her tone shifted slightly, becoming more serious.
"But Martin's right to warn you. The Verdant Pack isn't like the others. They're elite chosen not by blood but by strength. And Allen... well, he's not someone you want to cross."
Selene's pulse quickened. "What do you mean?"
Aria hesitated for a moment before lowering her voice. "Allen's power isn't just physical. He has a way of influencing people, making them follow him. Some say he's destined to lead the werewolf world one day, beyond just the academy."
Selene's thoughts whirled. She had no idea the academy's politics ran this deep, and Allen Rae seemed to be at the heart of it all. She had to be careful.
Before she could ask more, a sudden silence fell over the dining hall. The students' attention shifted toward the entrance. Selene followed their gaze and felt her breath hitch.
There he was Allen Rae.
He was taller than she had imagined, his presence commanding the room without him uttering a single word. His dark hair fell loosely over his forehead, and his eyes intense and calculating scanned the hall as if he were assessing each person individually.
He didn't speak, didn't smile. He simply walked to his table, where members of the Verdant Pack were seated, and sat down. The tension in the room was palpable.
Aria leaned over to Selene, her voice barely a whisper. "That's Allen."
Selene's heart pounded in her chest. She couldn't help but feel a strange connection to him, something she couldn't quite explain. But Martin's warning echoed in her mind stay away from Allen.
