Elias couldn't shake the unease that had settled in his chest after Liora's cryptic warning. Her words echoed in his mind as he moved through his day, and by the time evening fell, they had grown too loud to ignore.

He returned to his dorm room, but sleep wouldn't come. The academy's darkened corridors felt too still, too oppressive. After hours of restless pacing, Elias decided he needed air. The academy grounds were quiet at night, and it was the only time he felt truly invisible—free from the eyes of nobles and their judgments.

As he made his way through the gardens, passing the marble statues of long-forgotten heroes, his thoughts returned to Jax's words about the academy's secrets. The unease twisted into something else—curiosity. What exactly was the academy hiding? And what was the truth behind the disappearances Jax had mentioned?

Without consciously deciding to, Elias found himself heading toward the Arcane Research Institute, the section of the academy where the most dangerous and mysterious studies took place. The building loomed ahead, its stone walls bathed in moonlight, giving it an ethereal, almost menacing presence.

Elias hesitated at the entrance, his instincts screaming at him to turn back. But his determination was stronger than his fear. He had to know what was going on.

Pushing the heavy door open, he slipped inside.

The halls were eerily silent, the air thick with the scent of ancient tomes and lingering magic. He moved cautiously, each footstep echoing in the empty space. As he rounded a corner, he spotted a faint light flickering at the end of the hall—someone was inside one of the research rooms.

Elias approached carefully, peering through the crack in the door. Inside, he saw a familiar figure hunched over a table, bathed in the glow of magical runes. It was Jax, surrounded by a mess of gadgets, scrolls, and arcane instruments.

Relief washed over Elias. For a moment, he thought it might have been a professor or one of the nobles. He pushed the door open wider and stepped inside.

"Couldn't sleep either, huh?"

Jax nearly jumped out of his skin, his hand flying to a small, circular device at his side. "Elias! Don't sneak up on me like that!" He let out a nervous laugh and adjusted his glasses. "What are you doing here?"

"I could ask you the same thing," Elias said, glancing at the array of strange devices on the table. "You're still poking around, I see."

Jax grinned, his eyes lighting up with excitement. "You know me. I can't resist a good mystery."

Elias leaned in, examining one of the gadgets. It looked like a small, metallic sphere covered in intricate runes, glowing faintly with stored magical energy. "What is all this?"

Jax glanced around as if checking to make sure no one was listening. "I've been working on something. I found some old records, way older than anything the academy teaches. They talk about a different kind of magic, one that wasn't controlled by noble bloodlines."

Elias's heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean?"

"I mean," Jax whispered, his voice barely audible, "there used to be a kind of magic that anyone could use. Commoners, nobles—it didn't matter. But it's been erased from history. Buried."

Elias's mind raced. If what Jax was saying was true, it would change everything. The nobles' stranglehold on power was built on the idea that magic was tied to their bloodlines. If anyone could use magic...

"Why would they hide something like that?" Elias asked, though he already suspected the answer.

Jax's expression turned grim. "Because it threatens their power. The nobles have built their entire system on the idea that they're special, that they're the only ones capable of wielding real magic. If people found out that wasn't true..."

"They'd lose everything," Elias finished for him.

Jax nodded. "And that's not all. I think they've been experimenting. Trying to bring that old magic back under their control. But it's unstable—dangerous."

Elias felt a chill run down his spine. "What kind of experiments?"

"I don't know all the details," Jax admitted. "But I've heard rumors. Students disappearing, strange phenomena around the academy grounds. Whatever they're doing, it's not safe."

For a moment, Elias was silent, absorbing the weight of Jax's words. The academy was more corrupt than he had ever imagined. It wasn't just about keeping commoners down—it was about controlling something far greater, something they feared could break the very foundation of their power.

"We have to do something," Elias said quietly.

"I know," Jax agreed. "But we have to be careful. If the wrong people find out what we know..."

He didn't need to finish the sentence. They both knew the academy wouldn't hesitate to silence them if they posed a threat.

Just as they were about to continue, the door to the research room creaked open. Elias and Jax froze as a shadowy figure stepped into the dim light. For a split second, Elias's heart pounded in his chest, but then the figure spoke.

"You two really don't know when to quit, do you?"

It was Liora, her voice low and laced with a mix of frustration and amusement.

Elias let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. "Liora... what are you doing here?"

Liora crossed her arms, her expression stern but not unkind. "I could ask you the same thing. You're treading dangerous ground, Elias."

Jax raised an eyebrow. "And you're just here to warn us? Again?"

Liora's eyes narrowed slightly. "I'm here because I don't want to see either of you get hurt. You don't understand how deep this goes."

Elias stepped forward, his frustration boiling over. "Then explain it to us! Why are you helping us if you know so much?"

Liora hesitated, her gaze flickering between Elias and Jax. For a moment, it seemed like she was weighing her options, deciding how much to reveal.

Finally, she spoke. "Because the academy isn't just hiding the truth about magic. It's hiding something even bigger. Something that could destroy everything."

Elias stared at her, his pulse quickening. "What do you mean?"

Liora took a deep breath, her expression grave. "There's a power here—an ancient magic buried deep beneath the academy. It's been locked away for centuries, but the nobles have been trying to unlock it. And if they succeed... the balance between realms will be shattered."

Jax blinked, his face pale. "Realms? As in... dimensions?"

Liora nodded. "The magic they're trying to access isn't just from this world. It's from the spaces between. And if they break through, it won't just be the nobles and commoners at risk. It'll be everything."

Elias's mind reeled. Dimensional Echoes, the strange visions he had experienced—could they be connected to this ancient power? And if the academy was trying to unlock it, what did that mean for him?

"We have to stop them," Elias said, his voice resolute.

Liora met his gaze, her eyes filled with a mixture of fear and determination. "We will. But we can't do it alone."
