Fatima pov

When I reached the front office, I saw Adaya and her parents sitting down.

"Adaya's parents are here for a parent teacher conference with you that they said you set up." The receptionist said.

"That meeting was supposed to be yesterday but okay." I shrugged.

"We didn't have enough time to make it yesterday, we were busy." Her mother said.

"Right, like you never do." I mumbled. "We can talk here."

I sat down in a seat and crossed my legs.

"What did you want to talk bout Ms Wilson?" Adaya's father asked.

"I want to talk about Adaya. She comes to school sad and leaves sad, she doesn't talk and rarely interacts with any lessons. Is there anything y'all could do as parents?" I asked.

"She doesn't like school like any other kid, what's the problem with that?" Her mother asked.

"Ms Jackson, how often does she eat at home?" I ask. Not tryna say nothing but she be hungry!

"Whenever I give her food, does she not eat here?" She asked.

"Oh no! She eats plenty of food, for breakfast she got a cinnamon roll and french toast." I said. "It's not a bad thing that she's eating, it's just she comes to school wanting to eat everything."

"She likes to eat, it's pointless for you to be questioning us like we don't feed her." Mr Jackson mugged.

"That's not what I was implying." I definitely was. "Anyway, she's doing amazing in my class."

"Of course she is, she's smart girl." Ms Jackson said. "If that's all, we'll be leaving to handle business."

"Oh one more thing, I was looking through her information and I noticed that's y'all's jobs number and address isn't there." I said. "Can I get it just in case?"

"It's not there cause we don't work." Mr Jackson said.

"So what business do y'all need to handle?" I asked.

"That's none of your business. Bye Daya, your auntie will pick you up today." Ms Jackson kissed her face before she walked away with her partner.

Something didn't sit right with me but I brushed it off.

"Come on Adaya, let's get you back to class." I grabbed her hand and led her out of the office.

As we walked down the hall, questions filled my head. Where'd they work? Maybe their just stupid rich and don't work.. or maybe they get their money from doing something illegal..

I know Adaya's aunt said her sister was known for causing trouble but what type of trouble? Would that trouble put Adaya in danger? Do I need to get cps a quick call?

"Ms Wilson." I felt a tug on my arm making me snap back into teacher mode.

"Yes baby?" I asked.

"My feet hurt." I stopped walking and picked her up then continued walking. "I'm hungry."

"You're always hungry when you get to school." I laughed. "You can eat the snacks I gave you when you come back to my class."

"Okay." She smiled. I loved her smile, it's so pretty.

"Adaya, I have a question." I said.

"Possible answer."

"I'm bout sick of you saying possible and not knowing what it means." I shook my head.
