Jane's POV
I woke up this morning to my phone buzzing on the nightstand. Stretching an yawning I picked it up and looked at it's illuminated screen.
I'd received a message from Emily and it read; "Happy 17th birthday, Jane! Can't wait for the party."
I was filled with a mixed feeling of excitement and nervousness about tonight's party at Blackwater cabin. My mom had agreed to rent it for the weekend so I use that place as the venue for my birthday party.
I rolled out from bed and sat. I looked through the messages I'd received and they were all messages from friends and family wishing me a happy birthday but the most important of them all to me was from Nick, "Happy birthday, babe" was his message. It was a simple birthday wish but my cheeks turned a light shade of pink as I read it.
"Hey, birthday girl!" I heard my mom call from downstairs. "Coming, mom" I bellowed back before I changed into a pair of blue jeans and a hoodie to go downstairs to my mom.
I found her in the kitchen with a plate of pancakes with candles on them.
"Make a wish" she said beaming.
I closed my eyes and wished for an unforgettable party and blew out the candles.
"Okay, I'll be leaving for work, you have fun at your party" I heard mom say as I sat to eat my pancakes.
I heard keys jingle and then a "Bye" before the door was slammed shut.
I got dressed and ready because it was almost time for Aubrey and the girls to come pick me up.
I heard a car parking in the driveway and as I walked to door I heard a knock on it.
"Happy birthday!" A tall blonde girl and two brunettes chorused in the doorway when I opened the door.
"Can't wait for tonight's party, we're gonna make it epic" the blonde girl, Emily said as the three girls walked in.
We chatted for awhile oblivious to the time until Aubrey received a message and said "the guys are on thier way to the cabin, we have to get going".
The drive to Blackwater cabin was filled with laughter and music but the atmosphere shifted when we turned onto the forest road that led to the cabin.
The forest was dense and quiet making me have a second thought about the haunted stories told about the Blackwood cabin. The trees in the forest were thin and very tall that we almost couldn't view their branches and leaves from inside the car we rode in.
We sat in silence as Aubrey drove through the forest; the only sound in the car was from the pop music playing. We drove for about 5 minutes before the wooden structure came to view.
There was a black Range Rover parked in front of the cabin; "the guys must already be here" I thought.
Emily, Aubrey, Chole and I got off the car and stood before the cabin.
The cabin stood before us, it windows staring at us like empty eyes, it's porch creaking with every wind movement.
Chole eyed the forest trees and the wooden structure that stood before us and said sarcastically "Huh, this isn't creepy at all".
"I see why there are a lotta haunted stories about this place" Emily added.
"I get that tomorrow's Halloween but I wonder why I chose a haunted cabin in the middle of nowhere for a Halloween themed birthday party, what-if the stories are true".
"They are all just stories. This party is going to be epic and a lot of people will be coming so don't think too much about it" Aubrey assured us before walking to open the cabin door.
