I'm not sure what hurts most, my chest or my head. When I finally come to I'm laying on something hard. I groan and try to up right myself, small gravel digging into the palms of my hand.
"I need you to lie still..." The familiar voice says softly. However, I can't register what they are saying..
"Where....What happened?" I say trying to remember. I am still trying to resist the hand that is gently pushing me back.
"Anny, listen to me! I need you to stay still." Her voice is hardened this time.
"S-s-sasha?" I stutter, my eyes adjust and I see her kneeling over me. She has one hand on my shoulder trying to keep me down and the other one checking my vitals. Then, as if it's a blow to the gut I remember what happened. Panicking I jerk forward, trying even harder to stand to my feet. As If my brain is having a delayed reaction. Sasha acts fast she grabs both of my shoulders applying pressure to fight against my flight or fight response.
"Damnit! Anny! You're safe." She yells working hard to fight against me. Sasha isn't a small girl, she is very average size, but you can see the muscles in her arms and shoulders as she forces me back down on my butt. Her brows are drawn together in frustration and shes shouting something at me with urgency, however, I don't hear what she is saying. My mind is racing, I touch the back of my head and feel something wet. When I bring my fingers into focus I see a red liquid tainting my fingertips. "I'm bleeding," I say matter of factly. Although my voice sounds a million miles away.
"Anny look to me," Sasha says. I drag my eyes from my fingers to hers. Her hazel eyes pierce mine, burning with concern. "You are in shock. The ambulance is on the way. I will be with you the whole way, but I need you to lie still until they get here." She pulls the blue cardigan she had over her dress and presses it to the back of my head gently guiding me back. As I lay back I see Nathan in the distance with his arms crossed speaking to an officer. The officer has a small notepad out and he's nodding and writing everything down. It takes me a few seconds to notice that officer is none other than Officer Parker. He glances at me then back at his notepad. The sirens are drowning out what Nathan is saying. Just past him I see the ambulance pulling up to the curb. They rush to where another officer is knilt down next to a man a few feet of me complaining about a broken nose. His hands are handcuffed in the front and he's holding ice to his bleeding nose.
"This guy can get the next one, go tend to her." The officer shoos them away. The man she is referring to shoots her a glare and starts speaking at her in Spanish. The panic returns when I realize it was the same creep from the beach a couple of days ago. "What happened to his nose?" I ask Sasha. Her face relaxes a bit and she smiles and nods in the direction of her brother. "Nathan happened to him." I bite my lip, both amused and arroused at the thought that he came to my rescue.
One of the medics rush to my side. "Hey honey, my name is Tabitha. Im going to get you taken care of baby girl. Just lie still for me." She says reasuringly. "Hey Sash, What do we have here?" She shoots her a friendly smile as she rummages around in the black duffle bag she was carrying. Tabitha is a middle aged white woman, her blonde hair is cut short, almost to the scalp and is a bit choppy. She is wearing a navy blue button down and navy blue pants to match.
"Hey Tabs, She has a mild concussion from when she hit her head on the pavement. He was trying to drag her back towards the van and he had her mouth and nose covered so she passed out right when Nathan sucker punched the dude straight in the nose. They both went down. Nathan tried to catch her but the back of her head smacked the pavement. The guy in the van drove away." When she finishes Tabitha turns and looks at Nathan who is now approaching. Amusement playing at the corners of her mouth. "You did all that?" She says nodding in the direction of the now very bloody man and her colligues who are accessing him. She removes the now soaked cardigan and replaces it with a hand full of gauze applying pressure. She nods to Sasha to hold pressure while she applies the neck brace. Wincing at the pain as the adrenaline starts to decimate.
