A week had passed and Dylan had not seen Isabelle anywhere. He didn't even know her room and he did not care. It wasn't something he was surely looking forward to. I guess feelings are temporary. They come and go before we can even explore them. We discard them whenever they show up because we are never ready for them. Actually, we are scared of them. What they might do to us. Even though we might not like Love because it leaves a trail of cold heartaches, we still need it. A heartache, is still a better feeling than loneliness at any given time. The problem with us humans is that we think we are in love, when in actual fact, we aren't. When we truly fall in love, we discard the feeling. Misjudge its innocent intentions. Most people will die lonely, not because they couldn't find a lover or that the world never made a soul mate for them, but because of the attitude they have towards the intentions of love. At some point in life, we all got to fall in love and feel its tender touch and feeling. You can't deny the power that lies in love.
Dylan was in the library studying like he always does. He was well focused on his goals. There was only one way out for him, first class degree, nothing else. He was studying well, until the nemesis of his goals arrived. I could say Isabelle was a demon hindering some people from ascending to heaven. We all fear demons, and she was Dylan's scariest one, but as long he was on campus, he could never run away from it.
"Hey lover" a feminine voce whispered in Dylan's ear.
He wanted to scream but the library rules played their part. He had to play it cool involuntarily.
"What do you want now?" he asked impatiently wanting her to leave. He was no longer shaking like he did before. There was something different about him that had kicked in. The adrenaline rush perhaps.
"I just want your time" speaking erotically.
"Can't you see that i am busy? In fact, how did you even find me?"
"This campus is too small for me not to find you. I think I can smell your aura in the wind and it automatically directs me here. Or maybe i was sleepwalking and you were calling me to come find you?"
"Quit playing games with me. What the hell do you want?" a little agitated.
"I want this" she then went on to kiss him. She did it for a minute long. Dylan was in a serious shock. How could she be doing what she wants with him like that and he wasn't resisting. I guess he loved the feeling. Isabelle's lips were soft, i can guarantee that. The red lipstick suit her like it was specifically made for her. She was irresistible.
"This is not it. i will not be tolerating this nonsense!" he spoke so loud and everyone stared at him. It suddenly caught the attention of the librarian who was busy watching her movie.
"Lady and Gent, can you please take it outside, please?"
"No we're done here, Isabelle was about to leave"
"No we aren't done yet. We still have a lot to talk about"
"That's settled then, Mr Dylan please take your girlfriend outside. Let's not argue about that, am not in the mood" she commanded.
"Wow! She called me your girlfriend, I think it's high time we officiate this, what do you think?" she was all smiling and jiggling. Her dream was about to come true. She couldn't stop thinking about it for the moment.
"Are you happy now? Huh! Some of us got goals and our life planned out already. So if you don't have plans, please leave me alone"
"Dylan, you are being rude right now. You are my plan."
"And how's that?" Puzzled
"Can we go somewhere private and talk about this. What i want and what you want"
Honestly i don't understand and probably never will, what kind of a jerk Dylan was. He had this picture of dating a God fearing girl after college and live happily ever after. He never thought of the fact that people die, he never thought of living life in the moment. He was all about his plans for the future.
"The library was the only place i knew. So if you have something to say, you can say it here, right now" he demanded
"Let's go to my room or yours, or else i will not stop haunting you" She chuckled.
"Don't you have class or something to attend?"
"It's a weekend dummy" she giggled
It was after a few minutes of arguing that Dylan finally gave in and they headed straight for his room to talk it out. He didn't want her bothering him anymore. On the way, they were so quiet and Dylan was busy planning and setting his script straight. If he thought he could just discard Isabelle like the referee does with the players on that soccer field, he had another thing coming. They got to Dylan's room and Tatenda wasn't there.
"Now talk" Dylan commanded. He wanted to make sure the conversation was as short as possible, just like the mini-skirt she was wearing.
"Chill, we are going to be here for some time" she protested. It was funny how she could be so dominant over someone's time and space. She commanded him like she already owned him.
"Girl, whatever you think is going to happen, isn't going to happen. Just say what you want to say and then we go on with our daily business" he was feisty all the way. Protesting that she leaves him alone, but he was barking to the wrong tree.
"Ok, i will get to it. i want you Dylan. Can't you see that? I wouldn't be wasting my time with you if i wasn't interested in you. I want you and me to be the power couple on campus"
"And i don't want. You and I are not of the same calibre, let alone, our classes are way apart. Like you said before, you are expensive. If George can't afford you, that means you are way more expensive than my family, extended family and all my friends combined. I can't keep up with your lifestyle, honestly."
"Oh! So all along, this has been about my status and not your feelings? We can fix that, 'cause am down with you"
"Also, i have never been in love before, I mean, i don't have any clue on how to love somebody. So why would you want to be in a relationship with someone like me, when you can get better guys than me?"
'There's something in you that i see. As a matter of fact, am tired of these uptown boys, i want someone who's humble like you. Someone who isn't demanding and all too proud, just a simple dude."
They shared a heartfelt moment that i still can't wrap my head around. How does a low life scumbag like Dylan, score so big without even trying. How come she just falls for him? I think mother fate is a whore. She only works for the rich or should i say, the highest bidder.
Love, is a monster that preys on weak hearts. It softens the ground for a serious mental break down. One may deny the fact that we live in a world where chaos is not a result of psychotic behaviour, but love conquests. In each and every one of us, there is a beast that dwells within. A beast that silently and eagerly waits to be unleashed once we fall in love. We have all been through scenarios where we could not hold back but just pour our hearts out. So let's take a tour of the ill mind of love.
"Dude she said she wants us to be a thing. I don't know how to love anybody except for my studies. I am really confused about what i should do" Dylan poured his heart out to his dearest friend Tatenda.
"It's all good son, that's why you bunk with Dr Love letter here" laughing
"What do you know about love that i don't. You're just a loser like i am"
"Ouch! That hurt" groping on his chest. "You just have to take it slow and follow the flow. She is an expert, and you're her junior, so follow her lead and all will be fine."
"I don't know man, this shit is going to be hard. I got to let it go. I can always find another girl of my standards at least."
"Don't be a coward and a loser man, you see i was willing to get a shot, but it wasn't meant for me man. You got to man up and take charge"
"Alright, let's put it to the test.
He went on and officialised everything with Isabelle. The only thing he wasn't aware of, was that his life had took a complete turn. He was no longer going in the same direction with the wind that groomed him. They were two opposing forces. When we fall in love, we have certain expectations of how things will run. We don't really account for the circumstances that might sail the ship in a different direction. Our expectations blind us to the truth of what is really happening. If i didn't know better, i would say, Love is a beautiful thing, but since i know better, i now say, Love has the same effect as that of any lethal drug on the planet. If taken in right proportions, it's healthy as mother's milk. If taken irresponsibly, then it's just as harmful as throwing your head on a railway line. Love in my world, is the ultimate destruction and distraction. It's much better to fall in love at a tender age, than falling in love at a desperate stage. The moment you want to fall in love for the sake of the feeling how it is to be in love, that's when your doom days begin.
