Hi, my name is Umbrielle, or at least that's what I've been told.
I have lived in a sort of huge lab for as long as I can remember, therefore I've been raised along with multiple other people in cells without knowing where exactly we were, how we got there and what our purpose was.

Each individual had their own room sealed by a huge metallic door that would open horizontally to prevent disasters because of anyone's powers.
All of the cells had one little window next to the entrance which were connected to the long hallway, along with cameras both on the inside and the outside so that we could be observed at all times.
On the opposite side of the window was a screen often used to open the room's door, tho it could also show data about the individual like their species and their abilities. These informations were only accessible to the scientists thanks to a card and a code that they owned and carried around when needed.

The walls were slightly opaque and tinted in a bland gray color, same went for the roof and the floor.
Bright white lights were plastered on the ceiling one behind another, forming a straight line going across the hallway's two ends.

Sectors of half a dozen rooms would separate and distinguish us, I'm guessing this was to recognize us in a more efficient manner and make it all look more organized.

We could get out of our rooms whenever we wanted, except during night time and in some other rare cases.
It was also very unusual for us to sit next to someone else on purpose during meals in the cafeteria since most of us weren't quite talkative and didn't know each other.
Making acquaintances was not exactly a usual thing so striking up a conversation might have ended up just being straight up awkward and embarrassing.

About me, I was a rather average child like all the others, tho I ended up in a sector with a girl who seemed to despise me for no apparent reason every since the first day we've met. Her name was Ophelie and she would spend most of the time walking around the laboratory along with two other girls named Maeve and Layla, her two friends.
She was a fox and, not to be racist or anything, foxes aren't quite trust worthy...

She was well known around the area for being one of the ones having spent the biggest amount of time in the lab, so she thought she was better than the others.
The way she swung her hair around whenever she passed by would get on my nerves, and it was just one of her many irritating and annoying traits which I simply couldn't bare.

*Third person POV*

It was a day like all the others:
Umbrielle was sitting on her own in the cafeteria, eating her meal without bothers or complaints, if it wasn't for Ophelie who really couldn't seem to mind her own business for more than a minute.

"Heyy, are you on your own or did your friends leave you behind?" She said with a smirk as she walked up to the other along with Maeve and Layla, as usual.

Umbrielle kept silent and avoided eye contact at all costs, hoping for her to leave like that, but it unluckily did not work.

"Did you go deaf or sum?" She kept going, waiting for an answer to come out of the girl's mouth. Her patience was already running low as she started tapping the point of her foot onto the floor clearly showing her frustration.

"Please leave, I'm not in the mood for fighting over nothing" finally spoke with a low voice the silent child.

Ophelie ended up getting even madder at her, shouting nonsense over those few words that Umbrielle just spattered right then and there.
Even tho her voice was definitely heard by everyone in the entire place, no heads turned around to look at them:
to that point everyone had gotten used to her yelling at others so it didn't really affect anything at all; even if she randomly decided to start kicking her legs like a child while sitting nobody would notice as her immaturity was ridiculous enough to make that true.

Even behind all that, for as annoying as that could be, there was no one bold enough to tell her to stop yapping out loud.

The only places where they would be able to do so was in their heads, tho it wouldn't really help much as Ophelie's ability wasn't mind reading and it could never be.

By the time Ophelie went back to her seat Umbrielle had concluded her lunch and started heading back to her own cell.
She stepped out of the door which lead to her sector and walked down the hallway where a few others stood, doing simple tasks or just relaxing.

Her fingers gently pressed on the screen to unlock the door to her room which slid open almost instantly.
Walking in, she looked back hesitantly, making sure no one like Ophelie was following her.

She then shut the door close and ran onto her bed as quickly as possible to muffle her head onto the soft snow white covers.
The flip-flops she was wearing rapidly fell onto the floor producing a brief thud since she practically jumped instead of walking on what would've been the last step to the bed.

Her head was entirely covered, yet the rest of her body was left peeking out as she was laying down in a belly flat position, also swinging her feet back and forth in the air.

All she could see was the darkness between her face and the pale covers surrounding her, and that was all she wanted after what she defined as a "long day".
