It was a late evening in Washington, D.C. The sun had long set behind the Capitol casting a deep blue hue across the city. Inside the Vice President's office, Kamala Harris sat behind her desk, finishing up her daily briefings. The room was warm, the low hum of city outside barely audible through the thick walls. Papers were strewn across her desk, yet her eyes kept drifting towards the clock. You were coming to visit.

Kamala had known you for years, but this was different. As a long-time friend, you had supported her through countless political battles, and yet lately, something between you had shifted. Every conversation had become charged with an undercurrent of emotion, every glance felt more intimate than before. The unspoken feelings lingered between you like the unsent letters that sit in her drawer, waiting for the right time.

Suddenly, a knock on the door broke her thoughts. "Come in." She called, her voice steady, though her heart raced in anticipation.

You stepped into the room, carrying the weight of the city's chill in your coat. Your eyes met hers, and a smile instantly softened on Kamala's face. She stood, the papers and politics forgotten for the moment.

"Y/n," she greeted warmly, walking around the desk to meet you. "I'm glad you could make it"

You smiled back, your voice laced with a hint of teasing. "I couldn't turn down an invitation from the Vice President, now could I?"

Kamala chuckled softly. "Well, I suppose there are perks to the title," she replied with a playful smirk, before her expression softened "But really, I needed to see you."

Her words lingered between you, filled with the unspoken meaning that neither of you had fully addressed yet. You took a step closer, drawn to the warmth in her voice, to the way her eyes softened when she looked at you.

"I've been thinking," you began, your voice quieter now, a more serious tone laced within it. "About us."

Kamala nodded, as if she had been waiting for this moment too. She reached out, her hand brushing yours, sending a spark through your body "So have I."

The room felt smaller suddenly, the space between you shrinking until it felt like nothing at all. Her fingers intertwined with yours, for a moment, it felt as if the world outside had paused. The weight of her role, the constant pressure - it all faded away in that second, leaving only the two of you.

"Y/n," she began, her voice softer now, more vulnerable than you has ever heard her before. "I can't keep pretending that there's nothing here. Every time I see you, every time we talk..."

You squeezed her hand gently, encouraging her to continue. "I feel it too," you whispered, your heart pounding in your chest.

Kamala's breath hitched, her eyes searching yours as if seeking permission to say the words she had been holding back for so long. "I want to be with you, y/n. I don't care about the complications, the politics - none of it matters if I can't have you by my side."

Her confession hung in the air, and for a moment, the world seemed to stop. The two of you stood there, inches apart, the only sound in the room the quiet thrums of your intertwined heartbeats. Slowly, you reached up, your hand cupping her cheeks your thumb brushing gently across her skin.

"I've always wanted you Kamala." You whispered, your voice barely audible over the sound of your own racing heart.

She leaned into your touch, her eyes fluttering shut for a brief moment before opening again, filled with warmth and tenderness that you had only ever dreamed of seeing. In a heartbeat, she closed the distance between you, her lips finding yours in a soft, tender kiss that felt like coming home.

The kiss was slow, gentle, filled with all the unspoken words and emotions that you had been building up for so long. Her hand slid around your waist, pulling you closer as if she were afraid to let you go. You melted into her embrace, your fingers tangled in her hair as the kiss deepened each of you pouring everything had into that moment.

When you finally pulled away, both of you were breathless, your foreheads resting against each other as you stood there, wrapped in each other's arms. Kamala smiled, her eyes still closed as she spoke, "I'm not letting you go, y/n. Not ever."

You smiled back, your heart swelling with love and gratitude for the woman in front of you. "I'm not going anywhere" you whispered, sealing your promise with another kiss.

In that moment, everything felt right. The world outside could wait. The late-night meetings, the briefings, the political battles. For now, all that mattered was the two of you, standing together in the heart of the Capitol, where love had finally found its place.
