Winter Love

                                                                                Chapter 1

         Valentines is coming up quickly and Scarlet is getting excited about all of the plans that she has. She was starting to make dinner when she got a phone call. It was her brother, "Hey Bro what's up?" Her brother Jack, "hey sis, are you busy tonight?" Her brother loved asking for favors, "no I was just about to make dinner. Why?" Jack, "I need a really big favor. Scarlet starts to get very suspicious. She can tell of the tone of his voice, "sis I just need you to go to the airport and pick up Bryce. His flight lands in 20 minutes, and I am stuck in this crappy traffic." Scarlet rolls her eyes, "You want me to pick up the man that is your best friend and who is an asshole to me?" Jack, "look he is a changed man. Please do this for me." Scarlet, "fine I will go get him, but if starts being rude to me I will leave him on the side of the road."

       She hung up with Jack and started to get ready to leave for the airport. Scarlet made it to the arrival hall at the airport. The hall is full of travelers and couples rushing to greet each other. As she looks around, she hears a voice behind her, "I haven't said anything to you and already I know you're in a bad mood." She turned in surprise to see Bryce standing behind her. She thought to herself, "my god he turned out sexy." She looked into his eyes, "you certainly look different." He smiled, "is that bad or good?" Scarlet walked past him and whispered to him, "it's a very good thing." He smiled, Bryce standing with his luggage in his hand. "So, your brother called and said he was tied up so he's sending a surprise. It's a good surprise." Scarlet rolls her eyes at him, "you could always take a taxi." Bryce, "you don't need to be rude." Scarlet, "look I didn't want to come get you in the first place."

      Bryce looked down and then back up at her, "your right I apologize." He smiles and leads the way. As they got in the car Scarlet had started driving back home when Bryce smiled, "so princess how long have you been driving?" She focused on the road, "why do you ask?" Bryce, "because these are very icy roads." She starts to get frustrated, "look I know what I am doing." Bryce, "it might be safer to just walk." They both stay silent. Bryce breaks the tension; you realize it's been 5 years since we last saw each other." Scarlet, "yeah and your personality hasn't changed at all." She turned into her neighborhood and Bryce looked confused, "um where are we going?" Scarlet, "we're home." Bryce, "yeah but didn't your parents live here?" Scarlet, "no they live on the other side of town." She looks at him, "this is where I live." Bryce smiles, "so you live alone?" Scarlet, "yes I do."

      They walk inside and stand in front of the fireplace, "so how far is your brother exactly?" Bryce, "I just got off the phone with my brother, saying that there is a lot of ice, and he needs to wait for the roads to clear up." Bryce sighed, "I guess that's fine." He trails off as he walks slowly around her living room, taking in his surroundings. She watches Bryce with a gaze of doubt. "So Scarlet, what did you do to get this place? Rob a bank?" Scarlet, "yes and got away with it." They both laugh from her sarcasm. "So, when you're not robbing banks, what are you doing?" Scarlet, "I work as a Professor at the University. For about two years now." She doesn't bother asking him what he does for a job considering he is in the military and had just returned from overseas.

      Out of nowhere Bryce turns to Scarlet and pins her with a stare, she loses her breath at how sexy his eyes are. He sees her with smile, "being back here from overseas definitely feels good to be back." She noticed that his smile went away. She could not imagine what it was like for him being overseas. "Bryce, if it makes you feel any better, I am glad that you're back." Bryce looked up at her, "it means more to me than you think." His voice goes soft, it forces Scarlet to meet his deep blue eyes. "I doubt that, Bryce." Bryce, "why do you say that?" Scarlet, "come on we don't need to pretend Bryce. My brother isn't here." Bryce tilted his head, "what are you talking about?" Scarlet ran her fingers through her hair, "Do I need to freaking spell it out for you? We have liked each other, and we don't have to pretend that we do." Bryce, "I am guessing that's one-sided."
