POV: ALEX

I took Khandi to a diner Jessie recommended to me. Lattie's. They mostly served breakfast foods so we got there early and we ordered their most popular specials. While we waited for the food to come to our table, we got to know more about each other.

I learned that she wasn't born in Vermont. She came from New York alone after publishing her first book which is actually pretty popular. I put it on my list of things to read along with the other stories she told me about.

As she spoke, I admired her features. Khandi's a beautiful woman that I couldn't take my eyes off of. She had my attention the entire time and nothing could've stolen it from her.

I watched her lips move as she spoke.

Slow and seductive.

Her eyes pierced mine. She's great at holding eye contact, which is definitely a turn-on for me. Her lids hang low over her pupils with her long lashes hovering over them, giving her a femme fatale look. Her hair fell freely over her shoulders. With the cool air of the fall, I knew this was the perfect time for her to straighten it. I was used to seeing her curls bust through her buns and wave down her ponytails, but today her hair was straight.

I loved both looks on her.

"So what about you?" She asked, snapping me out of my daze.

I could've even lie. I chuckled and reluctantly admitted, "I'm sorry ... I wasn't paying much attention to what you were saying, I was too distracted by how beautiful you are."

She blushed lightly, "I guess I can't be too mad at that. Thank you."

"I'm only telling the truth."

"I was just asking what you've always dreamt of doing.. my dream has always been to write and I guess I pretty much accomplished that already."

I thought about it, " ... I don't really have a big dream. I've always been the type of person to just go with the flow of life."

"So you're okay with farming?"

"I love it, actually. This is the first time I've interacted with animals and nature as much as I do and I've never felt better."

She smiled, "That's beautiful."

"I agree. I can't believe I've spent so much time without this kind of freedom. I mean, some would say that I've experience a form a freedom back home, but ... I don't know, this is different."

"Back home?"

"San Fransisco. I pretty much lived under my parent's wings, but I needed to grow up and finally do things on my own."

"Yeah, I understand."

Her eyes lingered away from mine for a second and I didn't really like the way it felt. Like someone took their hand away from mine after holding it for so long.

"Enough about me, though," I started, bringing her eyes back to mine, "Tell me more about you."

She went on. I listened. We laughed and when the server came around with our plates, we ate. At one point, our hands brushed against one another's and it wasn't weird. We found ourselves casually holding hands like we've been doing it for years.

I caressed her palm with my finger and she toyed with my yarn wristband.

It was a very intimate setting and I was glad that the both of us were as into it as the other. I never imagined myself moving on from Michelle after losing her, but being with Khandi made me forget about everything that happened. It's like I was in another world.
