Dan POV:

I'm not waiting for Sayori today.

 That little bundle of joy can explain to her teacher that she slept in again.

... or so I tell myself. Instead, I idle outside her house, waiting for some sort of response after knocking again and again.

"Coming!" Sayori's voice frantically echoes from her room upstairs.

"You'd better be!" I reply, hoping our form tutor will take pity on us.

A minute or so later, the sound of her creaky stairs appears, and the door opens to reveal a scruffy Sayori, seemingly ready to leave.

Immediately, as we start to rush towards school, she starts talking at me.

"How are you doing, Dan? Sorry I was late again, I seem to be waking up later and later tehehe~! Anyways, did you hear? The principal is introducing a mandatory after-school club!"

"Sorry?" I asked, "Did you say they're forcing us to stay behind for another hour every week? Is that not just called detention?"

"No, Dan, it's an opportunity to have fun with new people every week!" Sayori stated, "Well, I was wondering which clubs you might be interested in, considering I'm already part of the literature club, and I was thinking anime or manga, but I then realised that there's no such thing! Anywho, because of this, I asked Natsuki if she would bake some cupcakes for when you join!"

"For when I join what?" I asked, half-zoned out, focused more on the few waves of people as late to school as we were.

"Were you not listening? You're going to join the literature club!" Sayori beamed.

I returned a look of disgust and said, "Sayori, you know I don't know the first thing about literature, and even if I did, I don't enjoy it enough to join a club!"

As expected, Sayori's (adorable) puppy eyes made an appearance, "But Natsuki baked cupcakes just for you!"

"You really made one of the club members bake cupcakes just to get me to come for a week? That's a whole level of determination I've not seen you have before!"

"Come on!!" Sayori begged, "Just for this one week?"

I sighed. "Okay, just this once."

Sayori punches the air in celebration.

And thus marks the day I sold my soul for a cupcake.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yay! The end of another boring school day! Or at least it would be if Sayori hadn't forced this poor Natsuki girl to bake cupcakes to try and entice me to their club. I've never met Natsuki before; I wonder what she'll be like.
I meander down the sixth form corridor until I find the class the club is being held in, and confidently walk in, expecting at least half a classroom full of people. After all, don't sane people like literature?
What I actually find, however, is a class of four girls - one of them is Sayori, obviously. One of them has purple hair and is reading a huge book - I don't think I've met her before. Then there's... there's Monika? She's supposed to be supporting a debate team or being head cheerleader, not being here, in literature club!? Well, no matter what she's supposed to be doing, she's at the front of the classroom. Guess I'll accept it. Finally, there's a short, pink-haired girl (who looks impressively small and skinny) at the back of the classroom.
Sayori notices me and bounds towards me effortlessly. I wish sometimes I had that level of energy; it might help me get all my homework done on time. However, if the tradeoff is always waking up 15 seconds before school starts, maybe not...
"Heya Dan! Yuri, Natsuki, Monika, this is Dan! Dan, these are the literature club members." Sayori says.
"Seriously? You brought a boy? Way to kill the atmosphere," says the feisty pink-haired girl. She sounds lovely, doesn't she?
Sayori immediately got defensive, "Monika just said we needed one more member, there wasn't a preferred gender! Besides, I've known Dan all my life; he'll fit in perfectly!"
"Thank you, Sayori, I'm sure he'll be just fine here." Monika says, "So, you're Dan? Sayori only has good things to say about you!"
Sayori flushes slightly after Monika says that.
Finally, the purple-haired girl speaks up,
"Dan, hmm? I'm certain that we can provide an atmosphere suitable so that we're all happy at the club. I do not protest to another member, especially if it's what Monika wants. I'm Yuri, by the way."
Interesting, so, by process of elimination, the one with astoundingly pink hair who is also currently giving me the dirtiest looks imaginable is Natsuki. I'm starting to wonder if she actually made any cupcakes.
"Well then, Dan, would you like some tea and cupcakes?" Yuri offers. Guess that answers my question.
"Yes, please!" I reply.
I find an empty table and sit down, opening my bag and taking out the only thing that was remotely literate in it - my manga books. After a couple of minutes, an intricate china set is presented in front of me - containing a china cup full of tea and a beautifully designed cupcake. It has the design of a book on the top, and it reminds me of reading with my mum close to bedtime when I was an innocent child. It's a shame she's no longer around. Attempting to derail my chain of thought, I take a bite of the cupcake. It tastes unexpectedly amazing, and I scoff quite a bit of it down without a second to waste.
"Even if Natsuki isn't the nicest person, she makes good cupcakes!" you think to yourself, "I should try my best to get on her good side, especially if I'm stuck here for the rest of the year"
Just then, a loud crash emanates from the closet, alongside a muffled yelp.
Authors Note:
A short one to begin with!
Thought I'd start off slow and work up, considering I have quite a lot to worry about at school lols
Hopefully the next one will be longer (like double or triple the length of this)
Byebye for now!
