Chapter 1

The boy woke up suddenly drenched in sweat, turning over he looked at his alarm clock to see its 3:39 am. He grunted when he sat up, placing his palm on his forehead.

“That same dream again, why? Does it mean something?” he said in almost a whisper. Running his hands down his chocolate face, he got up deciding to start getting ready earlier.

“Eh I already have to get up in 20 minutes so why not.” He said while yawning, he stretched and turned on his light to his disaster of a room. Going to his closet he grabbed his uniform, a black button up and slacks a navy blue tie and vest. Putting them on he went to his sock bin and pulled out a pair of black crew socks, sitting on his bed he put them on. He looked at the clock and it was 6:55 am.

“why does school have to start so early along with a 30 minute commute including traffic.” he groaned walking down the hallway to grab some breakfast and a cup of coffee, his socks making a soft pitter patter across the hardwood floors as he walks down the hallway finding his roommate michael standing next to the coffee maker waiting for the pot to finish brewing. Michael looked up at the boy with a tired smile.

“Hello Tyler, wake up early too?” Michael says softly as the coffee finishes brewing and Michael pours himself a cup then grabs another cup from the cupboard and pours Tyler a cup as well.

“Yeah, one of those crazy déjà vu dreams again.” Tyler says as he accepts the coffee as he yawns; taking a sip of the coffee, the dark brown almost black liquid hitting his lighter brown lips. He puts down the unicorn themed cup on the counter, as he stares at Michael, the long right side of his hair falling over his blue eye.

“What?” Michael says confused, as his dark brown almost black eyes advert tyler's piercing sky blue gaze as he scratches the back of his slightly tan skin underneath his platinum blonde wolf cut mullet, as Tyler shakes his head as he refocuses.

    “Sorry, I zoned out. You remind me of someone from my past.” Tyler mutters as he picks up the unicorn mug and takes a swig of the coffee leaving Michael to chuckle;

“Really now?” Michael says as he adds two tablespoons of sugar and a little bit of peppermint creamer into his coffee as he stirs it with a small wooden coffee stirrer, then begins to drink it while staring at Tyler.

“...” An awkward silence fills the room as they drink their coffee looking at each other as a soft light breaks into the room through the curtains of the small window of the kitchen apartment. The soft golden light hitting Tyler and Michael like an urethral light; while the smell of coffee wafting around the room along with the smell of vanilla creamer.

“So how are you doing in your classes?” Tyler asked awkwardly, he was still not used to awkward silence around him and Michael.

“Fine, fine. How about you?” Michael says softly, taking another sip of his coffee as he stares into Tylers sky blue eyes, Michael's eyes acting like a void that he can't look away from.

“I'm doing ok, need some help in math again.” Tyler says nervously, staring uncomfortably at Michael as tension filled the air.

“Your hopeless at math, i’m surprised your even doing well on your exams.” Michael says as he looks playfully over his dark maroon mug, his dark almost black eyes glimmering with amusement. Tyler looks away, closing his eyes and crosses his arms. He didn't actually need help but he liked getting help from michael.

“You're just a good tutor.” Tyler says in defiance, as he opens one eye with a pouty look on his face that makes Michael laugh; making him almost choke on his drink.

“Oh really now? I would have thought someone who got a full ride scholarship is smart.” Michael says sarcastically as he puts his drink down and cleans his mouth with a few paper towels after he spit out some of his drink back into the mug from laughing.  As Tyler opens both eyes and brings his head down to a normal level and his expression goes neutral.

“You ok? Did any get through your nose?” Tyler says slightly worried as he takes a step closer to Michael as Michael waves it off.

“No. It’s fine, I'll clean it up.” Michael says as he throws the coffee covered paper towel away. his tone a little colder then he meant it to be, making Tyler stop. He stared at Michael for a moment in dead silence before he went back to his normal personality like nothing happened. He put his hands on his hips with a mock stern expression on his face.

“Well fine.” Tyler says definitely as he puts his hands on his hips as he scoffs quietly, his narrowed eyes staring at Michael as he closes the cabinet door to where the trash bin resides. The young men stare at each other in complete silence for a few minutes till Michael breaks the silence.

“Are you just going to just keep staring at me or?” Michael says awkwardly as his dark brown eyes diverted to the side away from Tylers sky blue ones; his face becoming awkward and a bit uncomfortable.
Tyler stares at him a bit longer till he finally diverted his optics, his focus diverted to the clock hung up on the bland ivory wall.

“Ah, it seems we need to go. Otherwise we’ll be late.” Tyler says as he puts his mug in the sink, then strides over to the door for his shoes. Michael, surprised by the time, rushes to finish getting ready; getting to the car right as Tyler puts the keys in the ignition for him, because it’s cold outside and Tyler hates the cold.
As the car warms up Michael begins the long drive to school…
