Rudransh sat at his sleek, glass desk, the city skyline framing his view in the background. The fluorescent lights above buzzed softly as he meticulously reviewed quarterly reports, occasionally glancing at the email notifications popping up on his screen.

Just as he was about to dive intothe numbers again, his phone rang.

He picked up the phobe without seeing the name and the familiar, gentle voice of his grandfather, whom he affectionately called Dadu, filled the air.

" Rudransh, beta... " Dadu began, his warmth radiating through the connection. "Where are you? Adrisha and your cousins have gone shopping, and you should join them! "

Rudransh hesitated. " Dadu, I’m really busy right now. There’s a crucial presentation I need to prepare for next week. "

A chuckle escaped Dadu's lips, and Rudransh could picture the twinkle in his grandfather's eyes. " Let me remind you, my dear boy, nothing is more important than your DIL—or your family for that matter. You can’t let work consume all your time. It’s just shopping! "

Rudransh felt a pang of guilt. Slowly, he began to realize that maybe his grandfather was right. He took a breath and glanced out the window at the bustling city that held his attention hostage.

“ Okay, Dadu. I’ll join them.  ” he finally said, a reluctant smile appearing on his face.

“ Good! Now that’s my grandson! They are at the new mall; I’m sure they’d love to see you. ” Dadu ended the call with a bit of laughter, a sound that brought warmth to Rudransh's heart.

After changing into more casual attire, Rudransh stepped into the elevator, his mind still running through the details of the upcoming presentation. But as he exited the elevator into the mall, a wave of excitement washed over him. The vibrant atmosphere was filled with laughter, the scent of fresh popcorn, and the glittering displays of shops beckoning for attention.

His cousins, engrossed in the bright displays of the latest trends, looked up in surprise as he approached.

“ Bhai! Is that really you?! ” exclaimed Anika, her eyes wide in surprise. “ We didn’t think you’d actually come! ”

“ Dadu told me to join. ” he replied, lifting his shoulders in a nonchalant shrug. His voice was steady, almost monotonous, as he spoke.

“ Wow, must’ve been a serious order then! I can’t believe you’re actually shopping with us. ” said Samarth nudging him playfully. “Where’s bhabhi? She should be thrilled you’re here! ”

For a moment, Rudransh’s heart skipped a beat as he searched for his wife amongst the sea of shoppers.

“ Where’s Adrisha? ” he asked, unable to hide the touch of worry in his voice.

“ She went to try on some dresses. ” Anika replied, and Rudransh felt a wave of relief wash over him. His previous anxiousness subsided, but a nagging feeling in his chest remained.

“ I’ll wait... ” he said, his voice chilly as ever. He maintained his cold aura, a mask he often wore among his family. Rudransh loved them but sometimes the incessant chatter and the playful teasing felt overwhelming.

Moments later, the door of the trial room swung open, and Rudransh’s breath caught in his throat. There stood Adrisha, resplendent in a vibrant golden banarasi saree that shimmered under the bright boutique lights. The intricate weave of the fabric caught every glint, wrapping around her with an elegance that took his breath away.

Rudransh couldn’t tear his eyes away from her; she looked like a goddess descended from the heavens.

" Bhai we are done shopping... let's go out somewhere... " Said Anika while clapping her hands like a kid.

She held Adrisha's wrist and dragged her out of the shop meanwhile Rudransh paid the bills then the three brothers followed the two.

They had spent hours shopping, their bags filled with the latest fashion finds, all thanks to Anika’s unstoppable enthusiasm. With a lively skip in her step, Anika led the way to the local market, her eyes sparkling with excitement at the thought of exploring the myriad stalls.

“ Come on, everyone! We need to find some traditional jewelry! ” Anika exclaimed, tugging at Adrisha’s sleeve. The others—Yuvaan, Samarth, and Rudransh—trudged behind, their indifference palpable.

The market bustled with life. Vendors called out to potential customers, their stalls overflowing with vibrant trinkets, shimmering bangles, and colorful dupattas. Adrisha and Anika gravitated toward a small stall adorned with an array of exquisite jhumkas, delicate anklets, and intricately designed bangles.

“Look at these, Bhabhi! Aren’t they stunning?” Anika squealed, her hands clutching a pair of jhumkas that seemed to dance in the light.

“ Yes! They are really pretty. ” Adrisha replied, her gaze drifting off while Anika continued to chatter animatedly. She preferred the soft, understated beauty of things rather than the loud and vibrant bustle of the market. But seeing Anika’s enthusiasm brought her a certain joy.

After selecting an assortment of jewelry, the girls turned to the boys, who were lazily inspecting the stalls, pretending to care about the endless trinkets. Yuvaan and Samarth exchanged eye-rolls, clearly less impressed with their cousins' shopping spree.

“ Are you guys ready to eat? I’m starving! ” Yuvaan proclaimed, breaking the boys' collective daydream.

“ Food sounds good! Let’s find a place to sit. ” Samarth agreed, glancing around for a spot that promised delicious snacks.

They found a charming little eatery tucked between the stalls. The tantalizing aroma of street food enveloped them as they took their seats. Adrisha took a deep breath, savoring the smell of spices wafting in the air. Beside her, Anika had already whipped out her menu, her eyes scanning the options with delight.

“ I’m getting pav bhaji! It’s my favorite! ” Anika announced, her tone filled with excitement. “ What about you guys? ”

“ I’ll have a burger or something ” Samarth shrugged, looking decidedly less enthusiastic. Yuvaan and Rudransh agreed on snacks that leaned toward global cuisine, leaving Anika’s choice to stand alone.

As their orders were placed, a gentle murmur ran through the restaurant as the patrons recognized the presence of someone important. Adrisha noticed people stealing glances, whispering amongst themselves.

After a while there order arrived and Anika lached on it like a hungry baby. Adrisha chuckled seeing her and the boys shook their head.

" Bhai now let's go home... I am too tired " Yuvaan stated glaring at Anika who showed her puppy face to Rudransh.

Rudransh nodded and they proceeded to their cars.

But in an instant, that vibrancy shattered. A sharp crack pierced through the cheerful chatter, followed by a piercing scream. It was Adrisha’s voice. Rudransh turned just in time to see her crumple to the ground, a look of shock and pain etched across her face. His heart stopped when he noticed the blood dripping from her arm, where the bullet had struck.

“ Adrisha! ” Rudransh shouted, rushing to her side, panic clawing at his throat. He knelt beside her, cradling her in his arms, his heart racing.
