Well, I'm very close to the end, just this chapter and the Epilogue to go. In addition to the Hierphant being powered up a bit which was suggested, I'm borrowing elements from the Final Chapter of the golden route, itself. Not like I have any other ideas.

As Serenoa, Roland, Frederica, Benedict, Anna, Caeden, Alexandra, Trish, Narve, Avlora and Cordelia led their squadron to the palace gates, Captain Shandron and a handful of soldiers awaited them as they entered the palace.

"This is the end of the line, Heretics." Stated Captain Shandron, tersely"Though Hyzante may fall, we will not simply surrender."

"Then, there is nothing to discuss." Serenoa said as he and his group drew their weapons and moved towards the remaining Loyalists. Narve, Trish and Alexandra fired arrows at the guards while Caeden cut down a couple of Shandron's mages.

Serenoa braced himself as Shandron darted at him, parrying a couple of slashes before retaliating with a swift, horizontal strike. Shandron narrowly dodged and jabbed back. Serenoa avoided the attack and rushed forward to slash back, narrowly hitting his target. Shandron tried once again to counterattack, only for Serenoa to finish him off with a quick strike.

Roland took down another guard swiftly while Narve zapped another one with lightning. The last two guards rushed Serenoa, only for Anna to intercept one with a quick strike, Serenoa dodged his opponent's attack and struck the guard down.

"The grand audience chamber is just ahead" Serenoa said as he and the others took moment to catch their breath before continuing on, keeping an eye out for more trouble as they moved.

The audience chamber was mostly empty as the group entered. Caeden glanced at their surroundings, cautiously"You'd think the palace would be a little more heavily guarded than that."

"I agree" Alexandra murmured"It could be a trap."

"Could the Hierophant have already fled the palace? It's too quiet" wondered Cordelia.

A voice rang out"Come no closer, if you know what's good for you." A familiar old man in the traditional white garbs of the Saintly Seven stood next to what appeared to be a similarly clad, dark-haired woman.

"Minister Idore" Serenoa's attention turned to the old minister"I would have thought you and the Hierophant would have perhaps evacuated as soon as it looks as though Hyzante is to fall."

"Yes, I suppose that normally would be a prudent course of action, but her Holiness is to personally partake in the final line of defense, Lord Serenoa" Idore stated"I must say I was shocked that Exharme would dare betray the Holy One.

And I see you have turned your back on the Teachings, a most grave sin. You spit on the generosity I had shown you when I ordained you and the former king, Roland revered members of the Saintly Seven."

Serenoa shook his head"I simply set out to do what I should have in the first place, and that is to expose the fraudulent teachings as the falsehoods they truly were and bring about true freedom and justice. And is that person next to you the Hierophant? Why has she not said anything, just now?" He asked, curiously.

Caeden stepped closer"Something tells me that there is something not quite right about that woman, Lord Serenoa."

"Ah, you are rather perceptive" Idore commented to Caeden"What you see before you is but a pale imitation, a construct through which I would guide the people of Norzelia."
