Lost in lies

She loved him, that's what was important.
She stood silently in the hall trying to contain her emotions. The only bad thing about not speaking the language in a foreign country was now that her fiancé was laying unconscious in a hospital bed fighting for his life, she had no idea what anyone was saying. She believed he would be okay but didn't know for sure. She was scared. She felt alone, confused, and she'd banished herself to the hall. She couldn't see him like that.
'We had so many plans. How could this happen?' She thought as she looked at his blood on her clothes. 'it is our wedding week.'
No one in his family spoke English, just him. She didn't understand the medical team either. He had been her translator everytime she'd been here in India.
Her fiancé, Shiamak, was a very auspicious man. He believed in the hidden power of the human mind, astrology, and soulmates. He believed she was his and he was born for her. His birthday was thirty-six weeks after hers. A healthy number of weeks for any baby to grow. He was an amazing man and a more amazing lover. He was very protective of her and she knew she'd always be safe with him. He was her best friend. He wasn't perfect and had his flaws also.
An example of the bad that came with the good was his jealousy. He wouldn't let another man talk to her let alone look in her direction if he could help it. He had this look he would give others to warn them to stay away.
The night before the wedding rituals began they were eating dinner outside the apartment they rented. Everything was calm and seem fine until another man looked at her from another table.
"You should clean that up." She smiled taking a sip of alcohol from the glass in front of her.
"What? Is there something on my face?" He asked not looking away from the other man.
"Yeah, murderious intent."  She giggled. "Don't focus on anyone else baby. I wouldn't ever leave you."
"I know that." Shiamak said with an unchanging expression. "I just want it to be clear to everyone else that I would burn the world to keep you safe."
"I'm sure they know that." She said still smiling as she laughed at him.
"Are you ready to go Ellie?" He said smirking as he looked back at her.
"Congratulations." She said rolling her eyes slightly. "You officially scared him enough to make him hide."
The plan that night was to take Ellie home and Shiamak was going to go spend the rest of the night with his closest friend. That is exactly what happened but on his way home he was in an accident.
He was driving his bike on the highway. It was late so there weren't many cars. As he often did, He had accelerated a little faster than he was supposed to be going. He passed a few cars before slowing down to take an exit a half mile ahead. A shipping truck came out of nowhere and bumped his bike just enough for him to lose control. He was wearing full riding gear, but that didn't matter. The bike flipped and he was projected through the air hitting the ground hard. He bounced and flipped shattering several bones. His gear protected him externally but still there was damage.
Shiamak's best friend, Akash, had come to get Ellie and take her to the hospital where he was. Ellie was confused when Akash showed up. He'd pulled out his phone and opened a translator application to tell her she needed to go with him.
Shiamak's family and friends were all crowded together in the room speaking loudly about what happened.
Ellie had a friend here in Nagpur that she had only messaged online and spoken to over the phone may be a handful of times but he spoke English, she needed help, and she knew he would come help her.
He told her that he loved her about a year ago. But she was engaged and she loved her fiancé. She opened her messages to him and scrolled through the chat. She would be in trouble with Shiamak for messaging him. Their friendship had been a secret. If he showed up then everyone would know. Men weren't friends with woman here.

Mishal
I want to say something to you but how should I say it.

Ellie
Just say it.

Mishal
I like you.

Ellie
Okay...

Mishal
I really like you.
I love you sweetheart.

Ellie
I like being friends with you. I enjoy talking to you, but I am engaged. Friends is all we could be. If you want me to stop talking to you I will, but I won't delete you from any of my social media apps unless you delete me first. I respect your honesty and if you want to talk, I'm always here but I can't say that I feel the same.
