"Thank you." I say politely with a soft smile on my face as i do a slight bow to my regular cashier at the convenience store, him giving me a soft, old, cute, wrinkly smile back as he lifts his hand and sends me off a little wave, the bell ringing as I walk out of the shops exit. Midnight. Yes it was Midnight and I was out walking on the sidewalk, just a small little 22 year old girl who could get snatched from the street at any second and have no defence to defend me at all. The bag of two ramen and an energy drink was gripped in my left hand as it dangled across my legs while my phone was in the other, buzzing as my friend, Jia, was trying to facetime me.

"Y/niee! Where are you, why is it so dark." She tilts her head at the screen, her dyed soft orange hair falling over her face and she aggressively shoves it behind her ear. "You know me, just walking back home from the convenience store, walking on the sidewalk, where I'm most likely gonna take two more steps before getting snatched off the sidewalk." I say jokingly as I look down at the phone and see a glare appear on her face. "Don't talk like that Y/n, it will actually happen and then you'll be needing my help and i'll have to be batman and come save you." She says jokingly and a soft laugh comes out of my throat as I shake my head at her. "Sure sure, I'm just joking, I'll be careful and I'll watch my surroundings." She lets out a huff from the other side of the phone and points a finger dead at the camera. "Look at you, your hair is a mess and you're in Pj's carrying a plastic bag with food, I would want to kidnap a pretty cute girl like that." She says with a slight smirk and I laugh again. "Oh I don't think so." I look at myself through the phone, my black silky hair a bit of a mess from the light breeze, my face bare with no makeup, leaving my eyes sleepy like but still the usual cat eye shape. "Oh I think so." She says from the other end.

Our usual banter continues as I continue to walk down the sidewalk until there is a bang coming from down the alley I was walking past, causing a jump out of me and my eyes land on a metal bin lid that had been suddenly knocked down, my eyes glancing around the area to see if i could find anything that could have caused it. Nothing. "What was that?" My friend whispers through the phone and I glance back at it and shrug. "A bin lid had fallen off but I think it was just from the wind." I say calmly with a small smile, trying to push away the deadly thought of someone being very close by. Jia nods slowly on the other side of the phone, giving a slight serious look but not saying anything more before going back to our banter. I turn around and look back at the alley way after walking down to the corner of the street but see nothing and decide it must have just been the wind and turn back around to see a cat in the middle of the sidewalk causing me to squeal slightly and Jia yells "WHAT? IS SOMEONE THERE?" She shouts through the phone, my hand covering my mouth as I glance back at the camera before shaking my head and lowering my hand from my mouth. "No.. just a cat." I flip the camera and point it at the white ball of fluff in front of me and she starts laughing. "You got scared by that?" I huff and flip the camera back to myself and flip her off before ending the call.

I glance back at the cat as I shove my phone into my pocket and kneel down infront of it and reach out my hand to let it smell my knuckles. "What's a little cat like you doing alone on the street." I whisper softly, watching as the cat stands back up and brushes its body gently across my hand and purrs softly. I looked around again, seeing if anyone was looking for it, but saw no one for miles, except the soft old man from the convenience store that was cleaning the windows, now a good three streets away from me. I look down at the cat before standing back up and picking it up in my arms and holding against my chest and looking for a collar but find none. "Do you have an owner?" Why was I asking a cat a question when it couldn't even speak? I sigh softly before patting its head gently. "Okay, I think you can come back home with me. I started walking again, the plastic bag with the food and drink in it now hanging off my shoulder as I carried the cat in my arms. "What should I name you..." I look down at the cat as it looks up at me and meows softly, its eyes a soft green. "I think Lix is a good name for a pretty cat like you." The cat seems to like it and purrs softly back against my chest as I continue to stroke its fur gently.

About 15 minutes of walking, i stand in front of my apartment building, putting in the code to the front door and opening it up and walking inside and heading quickly to the elevator, thankfully there was no one at the reception desk because the owners of the apartment didn't allow pets and would forbid you if you bring any in. I press the button to the elevator and it soon opens and i step inside and click the second top floor, level eight and it starts moving up, and soon step outside of it and head down the corridor to my room and put in my code and head inside my little apartment, and lower lix onto the floor gently. "I'm going to go get ready for bed, you be a good kitty." I say softly and pat Lixies head before wandering off to the shower. Half an hour passes and I pull lix into the bed covers with me and rest the cat against my chest as I gently stroke his head. "Goodnight lix." I whisper into the cat's fur and soon doze off into a soft slumber, the cat still wrapped in my arms.

The next morning when I woke up there would be no cat in my arms but a fully grown man, around two years older than me, laying beside me as he watched me sleep...
