I wasn't sure how serious Mia was about her plan, but knowing her, it was probably more than just a joke. Part of me wanted to follow him, to see where he went when he disappeared into the night like that. But the other part of me—the rational part—knew that could end badly.Still, when Sunday rolled around and I found myself walking the same path I'd taken the night I first met him, I couldn't help but feel like I was being pulled toward something. Something I didn't understand.
The streets were quieter than usual. The cold autumn wind whipped through the trees, and the sky was a deep, bruised purple as dusk settled over the town.
I kept walking, hoping—maybe even expecting—to run into him again. But for the first time in days, the streets felt... empty. As if he was nowhere to be found.
I rounded the corner of his street and glanced up at his house. The windows were dark, the driveway empty. Was he even home?
I bit my lip, standing there for a moment, debating what to do next. Part of me knew I should turn around and go back home. But something stopped me.
That's when I saw him.
He was standing farther up the road, near the edge of the forest that bordered the town. His back was to me, but I knew it was him. The same tall frame, the same dark clothing.
I took a step forward, my heart pounding in my chest. I didn't know what I was doing. What was I going to say? But I couldn't turn away now.
Before I could take another step, he disappeared into the trees.
Without thinking, I followed.
The Woods
The forest was eerily quiet, the trees casting long shadows in the fading light. My breath was shallow as I weaved through the branches, trying to keep up with him. I could barely see him ahead, just flashes of movement through the trees.
"What are you doing?" I whispered to myself, but my feet kept moving.
Deeper and deeper into the woods, the air felt colder, thicker. I tried to call out to him, but my voice caught in my throat. It felt like the forest itself was closing in on me, swallowing me whole.
Finally, I stopped, realizing that I'd lost him.
I stood there, heart pounding, trying to catch my breath. The silence was suffocating, and for a moment, I thought about turning back. But then I heard it.
A low voice, speaking softly in the distance.
I stepped closer, careful not to make a sound. As I moved through the trees, I spotted him. He was standing in a small clearing, speaking to someone I couldn't see. His voice was too low for me to make out the words, but I could feel the tension in the air.
My stomach twisted with unease. Who was he talking to?
Suddenly, he turned, and I ducked behind a tree, my heart racing. I peeked out, watching as he finished his conversation and started walking back toward the town. Whoever he had been speaking to was gone, disappeared into the shadows.
I waited until I was sure he was far enough away, then hurried back out of the forest, my mind racing with questions.
Who was he meeting in the woods? And what were they talking about?
As I finally made my way home, I couldn't shake the feeling that I had just stumbled onto something much bigger than I could have imagined.
To be continued...
