"What would people think, Master?"

"I didn't know you cared about what others think so much, y/n..." His eyes thin, I know I've upset him.

"I'm sorry, sir, but–"

"...In school, too, you were always scared of being disliked and pushed to the margins, weren't you?"

"Master Geto, all due respect, but this isn't about that anymore. We're not in high school no more... I'm just... I'm afraid of the public's reaction when they find out that the theatre has been funded by a cul–by a religious foundation." Geto's eyebrows pull when I almost blurt out the word cult. "I prefer not to tangle my personal life with my professional career.

"You know that I donated anonymously. This has nothing to do with my temple."

"Well, ye–actually, no. No, I was not aware of that. I'm sorry, sir. I wasn't informed. Still...! You would attend the gala, would you not?"

"Yes. Why wouldn't I."

"And then the rest of the attending public would most definitely recognize you and... and then they will know that you were our biggest donor of the year! People are not stupid, sir!"

"And does that embarrass you so?" He's never appeared so distressed, not since that summer... "Does it disgust you to see me appear in public, with you?"

"That's not what I meant!" My temples pound. "What I meant was that the temple already does not have the best reputation and with you attached to my project, I–"

"Enough, y/n!" He grabs my shoulders and pushes me back into the wall. "No more!"

"There you are, Mr. Geto! I was just looking for you! I wanted to let you know that the meeting is resuming in a few minutes." Wes appears in the hallway and I allow myself to let out a long sigh. "Y/n! You're here, too–didn't know that you and Mr. Geto know each other..."

"Y/n and I went to the same highschool together, Mr. Wes," Geto takes a step back and straightens his suit. "If you'd give us a couple more minutes, I have something I'd like to discuss with your brilliant playwright."

Wes throws a glance at me. I shake my head slightly: I'm okay.

Once Wes has left, Geto straightens his tie. "Y/n, I was going to ask you to let me attend the gala as your plus-one and I wouldn't have talked about the source of the donation since I already knew it would make you uncomfortable. No one would've known about the source of your financial backup. But now... since you've voiced your dissatisfaction towards my mere attendance, I have changed my mind as well: I forbid your attendance at the gala without my presence. Additionally, I will choose your attire for the night and you will not leave my field of vision during the event. Understood?"

I nod, ashen-faced.

"Good." Geto muttered as he walked away from the hallway, pushing his hair back. "I knew it. I knew it was a bad idea to give my money to these goddamn monkeys..."

Monkeys? What's that even supposed to mean...?
