The sun beat down, the gulls cawed loudly, the perfect salty smell in the air. A perfect day for a shipment.
"Come on boys, we gotta get going, or we'll be late." Christoper, our captain called. Peter, my younger brother slapped my arm, getting me up. I watched as Christoper, loaded the ship. The mighty Agatha, Christopher says she's unsinkable to any storm. Which has also been said, by many great captains, and their ships sunk. But I believe him. It truly is an amazing ship, inside and out. It's just the three of us today. Me, brother and uncle. Watching the captain, I pryed open a barrel. The finest of rum, blue moon. I snuck 2 bottles into my satchel, and returned the lid of the barrel to its body. Me and Peter stepped onto the ship,
"You got it?" He whispered.
"Two." I smirked. He returned it.The sea breeze hit our faces, as we silently sipped our rum, not caring to share with our uncle. I looked down, to the water, admiring the way the water hit the belly of the ship as it road in the wind. I spotted a shine in the water. A tail. A large tail. The tail was like no other fish, it was gorgeous, a pale green hue to the scales, and delicate fins to it. It was decorated, pearls wrapped around it, thin gold beads too.
I looked over to Peter. "Peter, look!" I spun him to the water where I was looking.
"Look at what?" He asked, looking back at me.
I looked down. The tail was no longer riding the side of the ship. It was just there! Where did it go?
"Huh..? There was something, I swear I.." I replied.
"Yeah. Sure you did. You're just drunk." He returned to the other side of the deck. I sighed. What was that?
After another few hours of sailing, the humid air, started to cool. I looked ahead. A storm, head right at us.
"Captain! There's a storm ahead!" I yelled up at him.
"I know, Lewis. There's no way around. And we can't miss this shipment. It doesn't look bad, we'll make it." He said, staying sturdy, as always.Rain beat down on us, rain drops the size of gold coins hitting the wood of the deck.
"Hoist the sails boys!" Christopher yelled, me barely hearing him. We obeyed, pulling the sails taught. I noticed my satchel swaying around, just about to fall of deck. Peter was about to run for it, our precious rum inside.
"No! Stay, I'll grab it!" I yelled, running for it. Just then the ship rocked forward, sending me over the edge. I couldn't even realize what was going on, when my head hit the side of the ship, knocking me out.
"Lewis!" I heard, muffled, above me.
My vision started to go dark, as the sea water entered my lungs.•••
