"Alex." Mother breathes out, bewildered by his sudden presence. The tremor in her voice didn't go unnoticed. "I wasn't expecting you to be back so soon."

My heard swirls towards the man whom mother had welcomed with slight fear. The fact, that it's the name I'd never wanted to hear from, I had hoped that it didn't belonged to my new step-brother. I wished it's not.

But the domineering, dark familiar gaze that I'd long adapted to – burns onto me. With his eyes widened slightly, giving away just a little from his usual cold expression. But my prayers were too late, from the minute I'd recognised the freezing-blue eyes of his.

"Father tells me that we were expecting visitors. Thought I would popped in and say hi." His voice, smooth like velvet and so deep. He sounded just as how I'd remembered him to be. The familiarity of his voice, held so much temptation and mystery to it. It's the voice that I've gotten accustomed too, lulling me to slumber.

It's sweetest tone I'd ever heard. And it hurts, just as much hearing him, again. I bit my lower lips, tearing my eyes away from the slow-paced tall manly figure of his.

"Well, it's great that your father has already informed you." Mother didn't seemed too pleased with that. But she definitely didn't voiced out her displeasure. And Alex, the man whom I knew would see in my dreams only, certainly didn't pick up on that.

Sticking closed to my instinct, I held my head down, fiddling with the sweater I had on. At least, until he leaves.

I'd hoped that he wouldn't have seen me, or remembered me even. I didn't want to be reminded of whatever that had happened five years ago. Just stay calm.

"Anyway, I was planning to introduce my biological daughter during dinner. But since you're here, this is Rue. My biological daughter. She'll be staying with us for a while." Mother spoke firmly, leaving no space for me to interject, as she gently pats my back. I jolted at her first hit, wasn't expecting that from her.

After all, we're not entirely closed to each other. And I'd just met the lady.

But I gathered enough courage to tear away my gaze from my fingers on my lap and dragged towards her. Ignoring Alex's presence which I'd come to realised how close he was standing before us.

I glared at the lady, who seemed to be cooking something in her mind. I'd laid out my plans, just to stay for a week and no more. I had no intention of living with their little happy family. A family that had never been mine.

"Mother. No. I'm only going to stay for a week. That's it. I have a life back home. A family --," I'd figured, coming into senses, that this was the only thing I had in common with her. I wasn't going to submit to her, just because she'd tipped her voice slightly.

But I should've known that she wouldn't have backed down without a fight. I just didn't know how far she would go. As for now, she had only raised her voice highly.

"Enough, Rue! I'm your real family." She finally breaks out from her calm and composed demeanour. Alessandra proceeds to cover her ears very quickly with both her hands. And I jolted at how fierce she sounded.

"You will live with me, Rue. Us. Your family is me. And since I'm married to Petrov, his family is as much as yours, Rue. I've already told you, that I was sorry. And I will make it up to you. Whatever you want. But you cannot leave this family." Finality was evident in her tone. And she wasn't up for discussion either.

Her adamance to make me stay, infuriates me. She should have thought it through before abandoning me. Or even collect me when I was younger, before marrying Petrov or whoever.

But before I could argue further, convincing her that I didn't need her, or her addition family. Our conversation was put into an abrupt stopped.

"Rue." He calls, the voice I've dreaded had pulled me out of my thoughts. Laced with his thick Russian accent, which I'd found less intimidating, but alluring and captivating.
