Luna Hart woke up with the familiar sound of her alarm, the bright morning sun casting its rays through her window. At seventeen she balanced schools, friendships and the unspoken expectations of her small town life with quite ressillence. Her room, filled with posters of celestial bodies and stacks of books, showed her fascination with the night sky.
As she prepared for another typical day, Luna glanced at the calendar. The full moon was just three days away—a fact that never failed to stir a vague sense of unease within her. Her friends had been buzzing about the upcoming fall festival, but Luna felt a pull to stay away, an inexplicable dread that she couldn’t quite understand.
At school, Luna walked through the crowded hallways with Maya Rivera. Maya, with her tech- savvy ways and infectious laughing, was the perfect counterbalance to Luna's more introspective nature.
"Are you ready for the festival this weekend?" Maya asked, her eyes bright with exitment.
Luna forced a Smile. "Yeah, I guess. It should be fun."
But as she spoke, Luna can not shake off the feeling that something was off. The town had always held touch with mystery, with legends about the moon that older residents would recount on the chilly nights. Luna had listened to those stories with skepticism and curiosity, never truly believing in their truths.
During lunch Luna sat with Maya under a old oak tree in the schoolyard, casting intricate shadows on the ground.
"Maybe the full moon will be different this year," Maya mused, scrolling through her phone.
Luna nodded, staring up at the sky. The moon was already starting to glow with an intense silver light, more brilliant than she remembered.
As the day progressed, Luna’s unease deepened. Strange dreams had been plaguing her nights—visions of shifting faces and a voice calling her name from the darkness. She shook her head, trying to dismiss the thoughts as mere figments of her imagination.
After school, Luna walked home alone, the streets showered the setting sun. Passing by the library, she caught a glimpse of Mrs Thorne, the elderly librarian, who gave her a knowing smile.
"Be careful as the full moon approaches, Luna," Mrs Thorne called out, her voice with a hint of warning.
Luna paused, confused by the librarian’s remark. “What do you mean, Mrs. Thorne?”“Oh, just be mindful of the old legends. Sometimes, things aren’t always what they seem,” Mrs. Thorne replied cryptically before turning to attend to her duties.
Luna watched her go, the words lingering in her mind. The full moon felt like an invisible force drawing her toward an unknown destiny, and she couldn’t ignore the growing sense that her life was about to change in ways she couldn’t yet comprehend.
As night fell, Luna sat by her window, the full moon casting an ethereal glow across her room. The whispers began again, soft and insistent, tugging at the edges of her consciousness.Luna...She closed her eyes, trying to silence the voice, but it only grew stronger, filling her mind with a relentless pull.Tonight, the ordinary world she knew was on the brink of unraveling, and Luna couldn’t escape the feeling that she was destined to uncover secrets long buried beneath the silver light of the full moon.
