Five Hours Later
I had decided to take a nap since I had nothing to do but to wait.
Maria number five had left a first aid kit in front of the door with a soft knock but when I had opened the door, she had disappeared as if instructed not to continue any further interactions with me. It was probably Fen's doing, and I gathered that he did not seem pleased with my conversation with her. The question I had wanted to ask her itched in the back of my throat–Are you here because you want to be here? Or are you here because you're forced to be here?
It was a pity that I had been interrupted before I could obtain an answer but I had a strange feeling that she might have evaded the answer or refused to reply. Perhaps, it was too soon for me to become friendly with his staff, but I knew the closer I got to them, the easier it would be to dig up scores of information that may serve me well in the future. I would get another chance to ask her, but now was not the time.
I fiddled with my watch as I laid in bed, occasionally looking out the expansive windows into the ocean. The coastline was pristine and beautiful, and there were occasional specks of people walking around, enjoying their day while I was stuck here, trying to formulate plans as I tried to relax into the firm, comfortable mattress.
Admittedly, it was risky for me to be here–even though I had agreed, despite the unconventional manner that Fen had taken up with me to get me in his vicinity. It wasn't every day I was clobbered to unconsciousness and driven in some mysterious van in the middle of the night, and it was definitely something that I would not get used to.
The second matter was Fen himself. I knew nothing about him except that he was a mafia boss and he had several shady connections with the mobs in the main cities throughout the states. The information that he was connected with pharmaceutical companies, black markets and alien trafficking was unverified which made the circumstances frustrating when all the evidence gathered against him were merely circumstantial, never exactly pinpointed at him. He was clever, I would give that to him–it would appear that his hands never got dirty and he was never actually affiliated, his other connections taking the fall for him.
In other words, he was untouchable.
It meant that I would have to find another way to worm into his circles and I knew that I had a certain charisma that had both men and women falling at my feet. It seemed that my charms and wit worked on him for a moment, lulling him to my little web, nearly seducing him to his fall. After all, even he was not immune to me–that was evident. Something else had him withdrawing from me though, as if he had sensed the trickery I was creating and managed to escape it before he got caught in my sticky webs.
He was intuitive, I would give him that. But one way or another, I'll find a way to get him so wrapped around my pinky that there would be no chance for him to escape.
With all the possibilities running through my head, I began to drift off, the faint roar of waves crashing and the comforting hum of the air conditioner providing me the perfect background white noise to fall asleep too.

Fourteen Years and Three Months Ago
"Alex, wake your ass up!"
Li-Li's voice echoed in my dream, and I was dragged by the shoulders to and fro like a crocodile shaking its head on its prey. I slapped her hands half-heartedly, moaning in annoyance.
"Alex, I swear to your balls, if you don't open your eyes this minute, I will body slam you," Li-Li threatened, her hands moving around my neck to throttle me.
