As I head to Enhypen's concert in Australia, I can hardly contain my excitement. This is their second visit, and after missing out last year—when tickets sold out in just 30 seconds—I finally secured VIP access this time. I'm set to be barricaded, see the soundcheck, and attend the meet and greet afterward.
Arriving at the venue, the vibrant energy hits me immediately. A small crowd is already gathered near the rides, and a line is forming at the merch booth.
I quickly join the line, eager to grab something before it gets too long. While waiting, I strike up a conversation with an Engene in front of me. "Did you come last year?" I ask. A few nod, and one asks, "You?" I shake my head, explaining, "No, I didn't get in quick enough."
After snagging my merch, I wander around alone; none of my friends are here because they don't share my love for Enhypen.
But as I make my way to the barricade, I feel a thrill coursing through me, fueled by the excited chatter of fellow fans. I strike up a conversation with others nearby, bonding over our shared enthusiasm.
After about ten minutes, soundcheck finally begins, and the energy surges as the boys emerge from behind the screens. Fans sing along as the members jump around on stage.
I wave at the members when they come near, and I'm thrilled to get waves back. When Heeseung flips off his jacket for a moment, the crowd erupts, and I can't help but laugh and roll my eyes.
Heeseung leans over to Jake, gesturing in my direction. Jake comes over, sings his part, and adds a playful body roll, causing the crowd to go wild. I can't help but smile and giggle at the scene.
Once the soundcheck wraps up, anticipation fills the air as we wait for the concert to begin. I chat with the other Engenes, but as the crowd thickens, my anxiety starts to creep in. Loud spaces aren't my favorite, but for Enhypen, I'd do it all over again.
When the lights dim and everything goes black, the crowd erupts into screams. Then, the stage lights burst to life, illuminating Jake's silhouette as he appears, and the crowd goes wild. I don't film anything but manage a few photos, which seems to encourage the members to interact with me more.
The concert is incredible.
By the end, I know I'll be hoarse tomorrow. The Engenes who aren't doing the send-off start to leave, and I engage in conversation with those around me. My anxiety creeps up a bit; crowds and loud noises can be overwhelming. Still, seeing Enhypen is worth it, and I remind myself I'll manage the send-off, despite my social anxiety and Autism.
Suddenly, I hear screams to my right and turn to see Jake and Jay making their way down the walkway.
Jay approaches, "Hi Jay, the concert was great! How are you?" my voice shakes slightly as I try to make conversation, battling my nerves.
We chat for a bit while he signs for other fans, and then Jake joins us. I feel a familiar rush of adrenaline mixed with anxiety, but surprisingly, I'm not shaking as much as usual.
One by one, the other members begin to emerge. Finally, Heeseung is the last to reach me, and I feel a rush of anxiety and excitement. As we chat, he suddenly says, "You look really pretty." My cheeks flush, and I smile.
"Thank you," I whisper, covering my mouth in embarrassment.
He gasps dramatically, "GUYS! I JUST GOT HER TO BLUSH!" The other members rush over, and I can feel my face getting hotter as I suddenly become the center of attention.
"Holy crap!" Jake exclaims, and the boys fuss over me, which only makes me blush more. "Finally, we had a competition to see who could make you blush first," Ni-ki tells me.
"I can't believe it was me! I thought you would never blush," Heeseung adds, making me giggle. The boys watch me, grinning. "What?" I ask, feeling a bit self-conscious.
"Your laugh is so cute," Ni-ki says, and the others nod in agreement. "Thank you, but I don't believe that," I respond, shyly. Sunoo pipes in, "I agree with them, and I'm the cutest one in the group." This makes me laugh.
"Yeah, okay, thank you," I say, and the boys nod, returning to where they were before Heeseung called them over. "Your laugh sounds like heaven," Heeseung whispers in my ear, making me blush again. "You can't stop blushing now, can you?" he chuckles. I can hardly believe this is happening—what a surreal y/n moment!
As the members circulate, taking photos and signing autographs, they keep returning to chat with me. They ask if I want a photo or something signed, and I politely decline each time, focusing on our conversation.
After what feels like an eternity of joy, they finally say goodbye and head backstage. I linger for a moment, soaking in the memories of my first concert. The Engenes around me are so friendly that, even though I came alone, I never felt isolated.
Taking a deep breath, I gather my things and head up the steps for one last photo. Just as I'm about to leave, a girl approaches me...
