Sarah drove along the winding, narrow road that led to Hollow Creek, the trees closing in like spectators to her journey. The air was thick with mist, casting an eerie glow over the landscape as the late afternoon sun struggled to break through. She glanced at her phone—no service. Just as she was about to turn back, she spotted the town sign: "Welcome to Hollow Creek."

Her heart raced with both excitement and unease. She had inherited a mansion from a relative she barely knew, drawn to the promise of a fresh start after her recent divorce. As she navigated the quiet streets, she noticed the townspeople watching her with curious, wary eyes.

The mansion loomed ahead, its once-grand façade now draped in neglect. Vines crept up the cracked stone walls, and broken windows stared like hollow eyes. As she parked the car, a chill ran down her spine, and she felt as though she were being observed.

Stepping out, Sarah took a deep breath, trying to shake off the sense of foreboding. She approached the front door, the wood warped and splintered. With a tentative push, it creaked open, revealing a dimly lit hallway filled with dust motes dancing in the air.

Inside, the house was a time capsule of the past. Antique furniture, draped in white sheets, whispered stories of former lives. The musty smell enveloped her, stirring memories of childhood visits to her grandmother’s home. But something felt off—an unsettling silence that hinted at more than just abandonment.

As she explored, Sarah noticed strange symbols etched into the walls, remnants of something long forgotten. Her heart pounded as she discovered a hidden room behind a bookshelf, filled with old portraits of stern-faced ancestors. One portrait, in particular, caught her attention—a woman with piercing eyes that seemed to follow her every move.

Feeling a sudden gust of wind, Sarah shivered. She dismissed it as her imagination, but the weight of the house’s history pressed heavily on her shoulders. She resolved to uncover the truth about her inheritance, unaware that the shadows of the past were already stirring, eager to welcome her home.
