You don't know someone until you actually know them

After Alyssa ruined mine and James' date, we both decided we'd go out on a date another time, without her of course. All 3 of us were currently walking down a neighborhood street with me in the back and the two of them ahead of me. Alyssa was telling James about how she didn't have a phone due to her smashing it, on purpose. James only replied with his usual: "Ok" and honestly I started to wonder if he felt any kind of emotion at all. Maybe he had a troubled past?

"I don't have a phone either" he told Alyssa.

"Really?" Me and Alyssa asked in unison.

"Yeah. I hate them."

Interesting. I mean considering the fact that practically everyone in the world is addicted to their phones. But I will admit, I liked that. I feel like people without phones are smarter than people with phones.

"I think we live in the most boring town on the planet. Everyone's so fucking square." " Alyssa stated.

"I don't think its that bad" I countered.

She stopped walking and spun backwards to face me. "Are you boring too?"

"No"

She spun back and continued walking. Honestly I was now getting the feeling that the only thing she cared about was getting her feelings out, no matter how anyone else felt about what she thought or said.

She then asked James if we could go to his house which he surprisingly said yes to. He just met us and already agreed to let us into his house. And there was something about the way he said: "Yeah, sure" that sounded cryptic and a bit spooky. But I knew although he was just a bit strange, he wouldn't ever do anything to us.

I stopped for a few seconds and thought of the worst possible outcome. But nothing. So I continued walking.

We eventually reached James's house and headed inside. He went in first and held the door open for me and Alyssa.

We hung out and talked. James's dad came home and it was probably the most awkward situation I've been in yet. James didn't seem to like his dad's positive and upbeat attitude. His dad was so happy about him finally getting into a relationship, he was practically crying tears of joy. I just sat there awkwardly. I hardly even said anything apart from my name. The only sounds in the house apart from James' dad's voice was Alyssa's toast she had made moments prior from James's dad coming home.

But it didn't last much longer. When we finished our very awkward conversation, we all headed to the roof where we sat down and stared off into the distance. It was nice.

Well it was nice until Alyssa once again asked the most embarrassing question out of the blue.

"Have you ever eaten a pussy before?"

I whipped my head around, my eyes wide.

"Me or him?" I asked

"Both of you"

"I'm not answering that"

"Why?"

"Because I don't have to answer your sometimes obnoxious questions."

"Just say it. Its not like I'm gonna post it to the internet. I smashed my phone."

I had never even gotten into a single relationship, but in this case I felt the need to lie. Otherwise I would sound like a pussy and I didn't want to disappoint Alyssa.

"Yeah, Back at my old school I had a boyfriend and we went to a party once and things got a little intense." I made up.

"And?"

"And what?" I furrowed my brow.

"What happened?" She inquired.

"I ended up eating him out"

She just cackled. I just chuckled. I wasn't too bad of a liar.

My phone buzzed in my packet. I took it out and read the message.

Evelyn: Hey, where are you?  Everything ok?

How could I forget to tell her? I guess I got so caught up in conversation with Alyssa and James, I forgot about the time.

Mia: I'm over at a friends. Sorry for not telling you, I lost track of time. Ill head over now. See you soon.

I put my phone back in my pocket and let them know I had to go.

"I have to head home now but thanks for today" I looked over at James and smiled. He smiled back and I felt butterflies erupt my stomach.

I arrived home. Evelyn was the first to come down followed by my mom.

"Sorry. I got carried away hanging out with friends" I explained.

"You already made friends!?" Evelyn said, excitement and curiosity evident in her voice.

"Yeah. Their names are James and Alyssa."

"Wait. Alyssa. Like the girl with long red hair and super expressive attitude?"

"Yeah, why?"

"That girl seems troubled to me. I think her mom and dad divorced and she remarried this guy named Tony who Alyssa apparently hates because he's potentially abusive."  Evelyn told me.

"How do you know all this stuff about people?" I inquired. She's always done this and I hope she'll teach me someday. Its really impressive.

"I'm not saying you shouldn't hang out with her but just jeep it in mind." She advised me.

'Do you know anything about James?"

"There's not much I know but he looks a bit troubled. Which is fine. I just feel bad."

"But you don't actually know someone until you actually know them, right? That's what you always told me when I was little."

"Yeah. Anyway, dinners almost ready."
