Schrei so laut, Bruder, mach dich heiser

The air in the small room was still, save for the faint rustling of fabric as Y/N sat beside his maiko apprentice. Her fingers plucked gently at the strings of the shamisen, practicing a soft melody that filled the space with a serene calm. The afternoon light filtered through the paper windows, casting soft shadows across the floor, making the room feel like a fragile sanctuary.

Y/N watched her silently for a moment, his heart heavy with a weight he hadn’t spoken aloud. She was so young, so eager to please, her every movement filled with the unspoken desire to perfect her art. The same fire had once burned in him, too—before the years of wear and tear had dimmed its light.

He reached out, his hand trembling slightly as he placed it over hers, stilling her playing. She looked up at him, her eyes wide and curious, but Y/N couldn’t bring himself to speak right away. The words were lodged somewhere deep inside his chest, tangled with emotions he had kept buried for far too long.

“I… I just wanted to say…” Y/N’s voice was soft, barely above a whisper as he struggled to find the right words. He blinked back the tears that threatened to spill over, his gaze dropping to the floor. “I’ve enjoyed being with you. Training you, guiding you.”

His apprentice tilted her head slightly, a small frown of confusion creasing her brow. “Y/N-san, are you all right?”

Y/N let out a shaky breath, his chest tightening as he looked at her. She was so young, so full of life and potential, and it broke his heart to think of what might lie ahead for her if she followed the same path he had. The thought of her enduring the same pain, the same heartache, was almost too much to bear.

Without thinking, he reached out and gently stroked her face, his fingertips brushing against her smooth skin. She blinked in surprise, her confusion deepening, but she didn’t pull away. Y/N’s hand lingered on her cheek, his eyes filling with tears he couldn’t hold back any longer.

“You’re the closest thing I’ve ever had to family,” he whispered, his voice breaking as the words slipped from his lips. His thumb traced the edge of her jaw, his touch gentle, almost reverent. “I don’t know if I’ve ever told you that.”

Her frown softened, but she still looked puzzled, unsure of what to say. “Y/N-san…”

He smiled faintly, but it was a sad, bittersweet smile, one that didn’t reach his eyes. Y/N withdrew his hand slowly, his heart aching with every beat. “You remind me of what I used to be… before everything changed.”

The room felt impossibly small, the weight of his unsaid farewell hanging between them like a heavy curtain. His apprentice shifted uncomfortably, clearly sensing that something was wrong but not knowing how to address it.
