Dear Layne,

When you left I was shocked to the bone. You left with no "goodbye", no "I'm sorry", not even an "I'm breaking up with you". Absolutely nothing. I thought you'd just disappeared. I know I sometimes have wandering eyes and that I'm argumentative. But, I honestly didn't know it bothered you so much that you wanted to leave.

The day we went to your friend Tyler's grandparent's house for fireworks on the 4th of July was when I noticed you acted sort of funny when I looked at other guys. We weren't even dating yet and even then I could see jealousy in your eyes. You called me and invited me out over the phone at the last second. "It'll be a blast Sierra! Just bring a blanket to sit on and something to drink." You said. Like I said before, I used to be more of an introvert back then. "I don't know Layne. I was just going to watch the fireworks from my yard with my mom. I think it'd be pretty rude if I just left her." I answered. "Oh, don't worry about that," you said, "I already asked her, she's going to her boyfriend's house for fireworks."

Well crap, I thought, now I have to be around people.

"So, I'll pick you up at 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. How's that sound?" You asked casually. "Yeah sure, that's fine." I sighed. "Goodnight gorgeous." You said, and I felt like I could see your smile through the phone. I blushed and said "See you then." and hung up fast.

That night, even though I didn't like the idea of being around a bunch of people, I was really excited. I was dancing around my room (with really loud music playing) using my hairbrush as a microphone and jumping on my bed. I called Jaylie and asked if she would come over because I was exploding with giddiness. "JAYLIE, JAYLIE, JAYLIE YOU NEED TO COME OVER RIGHT NOW! RIGHT NOW!" I squealed through the phone. "What, why? What happened? Did you almost burn down the house trying to make dinner again? Are you okay?" "No, I'm fine. Just come over, IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT!" I squealed again and hung up.

After that I got a text two minutes later.

Jaylie: Ok ok sheesh I'm omw, I'll be there in 10 minutes

I can honestly say that I've never acted that happy to go somewhere in my life. Well, except for the time when I was seven and my whole family got to go to Disney Land. I jumped around my room then too. Thinking about it makes me laugh to myself, which is a little creepy because people keep staring at me and sipping their lattes. I can see them thinking to themselves, ew why is that snorting pig in here? Yes, I'm writing to you from a café. Come to think about it, it's the same café you asked me to be your girlfriend in.

We'll get to that part later on though, now where was I? Oh right, dancing around my room like a maniac.

I put together an outfit for the party and painted my nails in red, white, and blue with silver stars. Like any other girly-girl does on the 4th of July right? Just then, my mom yelled for me from the bottom of the stairs. "Sierra, Jaylie's here!"

"Okay, tell her to come up here!" I yelled back.

Jaylie opened my bedroom door and said "What are you doing?" "I'm painting my nails. What does it look like I'm doing?" I answered. "I didn't even know you owned nail polish! Who is he?" She said with a knowing smile. "Oh my gosh, you actually think I'm doing this to impress a guy?" I asked accusingly. "Well yeah! Tell me who it is." Jaylie said. "Fine, you're right. Guess." I said. "Bradley?" She said with a grossed-out look. "Ew gross, no!" I laughed. Bradley was a guy in our freshman class a few years ago who ended up on steroids and meth. Yeah, let's just say he quit school before tenth grade.

"Okay.. Um.. OH MY GOD IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW!!! I know who it is." She said as her face lit up with the biggest grin I've ever seen her have. "Who do you think it is?" I say as I finished painting my last finger nail. "It's Layne isn't it? Layne Williams. Tell me everything." She said. Jaylie ran over to my desk chair and sat on it backwards resting her head in her hands with her elbows on the backrest. She looked very intrigued with the idea of me trying to impress you. "He invited me to his friend's grandparent's fourth of July party. He told me to bring a blanket to sit on and something to drink. That's pretty much it." I said. Jaylie sighed with a dreamy look in her eyes. Then she stood up from the chair examining her nails like some cliché queen bee know it all. "Well, I might as well spend the night with you. You're going to need my help."

"Why would I need your help?" I said. "Why would I need your help?" She said in a mocking tone, "You need my help because you are the most quiet, shy, socially awkward person that I have ever met." "Hey! I do not sound like that!" I glared at her, refusing to accept the truth that I really would need her help. "How many relationships have you even been in girl? Like, two?" She said, by now she seemed unamused as she walked to my bedroom window and opened the blinds. Now, the moonlight from the full moon was shining on her light brown skin making her unusual blue eyes glimmer. She was absolutely beautiful and I envied her. Although, my mother had always said that being envious usually leads to being jealous, so I just kept it to myself.

"I mean, I kinda thought it would've been him anyway. He's been asking me about you all the time." She laughed, and in a deep voice (a mimic of your voice I guess), she said "Yeah so umm, how's Sierra been? Oh really? Oh, well tell her I said hi okay?" Jaylie must've thought this was hilarious because she fell to the ground in tears from laughter. "Okay, okay quit. It's not that funny." I said laughing because she was snorting now. Between snorting fits of laughter she said "Yeah *snort* it really *snort* is." "Get off of the floor you freak." I laughed. "I *snort* can't!" She is literally laughing hysterically. I pulled her up and sat her down on my bed and slapped her. "Snap out of it you crazy person!" I yelled. "Ow! Okay I'm done!" She yelled back.

Just then my bedroom door opened and my mom's slim face peeked through the gap between the wall and the door. "Everything okay in here?" She asked looking concerned. "Yeah mom, Jaylie is staying the night okay?" I said. "Sure, I don't care. Go to bed at a decent hour at least." She said, and shut the door.
